5D Mark II - Best place to buy

Have you tried: http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/prod726.html ?? Or Kerso on here? I think the wossisname wisdom is that the kit is a bargain, and you may be able to resell the lens for more than the difference: http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/prod728.html...

    RRS L-Plate/Lens plate alternatives?

Warehouse Express do somef Kirk L-brackets which are Arca-Swiss, for example. No idea what they're like.

    Wedding Threads

I don't think it's so much that, as it's a matter of professional "pride" and standards. Someone posted a thread on here the other day saying that their photography hobby has spoiled taking snapshots for them. They wanted some simple snapshots of the kids coming off the ride as Disneyland, and...

    Best Food photography lighting book?

Blimey! That is rocking horse, isn't it? London residents may find that Newham library service have a copy, but you have to reserve it. Stroller.

    Getting annoyed with my Sigma

Unfortunately, Canoon have the monopoly on guaranteed Canon-compatible lenses. Stigma have to reverse-engineer Canon's protocol by which the lenses talk to the camera. They have got this fairly famously wrong in the past, and if your lens has indeed been doing this all the time you've had it, I...

    Gitai KS1 ballhead??

I may be wrong, but I think Welly might have a cheap Arca-Swiss compatible that he bought on eBay for about this sort of money. If the camera plate is sound, then it's probably worth £20 on its own, but I'd imagine the ball-head will be utter rubbish.

    New to this

On that budget, something like the Canon 300D (£135 from MPB photographic) Toothie's 350D if that's still available (criminally underpriced in the classifieds here) or a 350D or 400D off eBay. Kit lens £30 or £35 for the non-IS version, £100 or £135 (??) for the IS version.

    Canon 85mm f1.8 and Kenko 1.4

Really? I'm surprised they go so cheap, seeing as they appear to be rarities on the second hand market. eBay is difficult to search because it's always clutters with zoom lenses shipped from Hong Kong and lots of other crap, but I can't see a 135mm SFF in the completed items. I don't think...

    Buying 24-105L off eBay... Stolen?

I didn't mean to cast aspersions, mate. It was difficult wading through the whole thread, and the whole setup did seem a bit more dodgy in the earlier posts. I'm glad it all transpired to be ok - clearly you can tell the score face to face better than we can at one remove. Stroller.

    Buying 24-105L off eBay... Stolen?

I have a customer who is an independent jeweller. Dishonest staff are his biggest worry - not because he doesn't know it's going on, it's proving who the bad 'un is that's the problem. I suspect that if the employee has been with you more than 6 months or so, you can't sack them without very...

OO can't make up my mind

When I bought my 350D I bought it body-only because I have a 28-70mm here which was the kit lens from an old film EOS. The very first weekend I used my camera, I found 28mm too limiting - I immediately replaced it with the 18-85mm IS. Even at times I find that insufficiently wide, but there's...

    Why convert to dng

Some people seem to be taking this as a serious comment - I'm pretty sure Whiteflier had his tongue in his cheek when making this post. An open-source developer recently gave a bit of a rant about what a mess Photoshop files are, and how difficult they are to read. Adobe's response is...
