thanks for your help so far chaps i think i'm getting their with the color but still not 100% happy but the BW still coming out very sepia and i like the 100% BW effect... Phil when you get a chance can you post some of the screen shots of your setting .

the problem are black and white all come out with either a light sepia tone or a very heavy one depending on what preset i use, also colour printing has a magenta cast in some...
when I shot the AB I was low ISO 800 / 5 sec and f4.5 using a 5d iii / 24-104 L but the lights weren't that strong I was told by the guide that they were about a 2 out of 10 but I still had to tone down the lighting of the sky and bump up the greens to make them stand out...
I think it comes down to common sense, when I use flash it's off camera to the side and not blasting in the face of a rider and it just give a nice side light and a bit of pop.
