Can Some one please help me with my d300

There is always a young 'Einstein' who wants to show off his knowledge, okay, my advice was deliberately simplistic and doesn't cover Shutter Speed and ISO (or depth of field and its relationship to Aperture). So, over to you, I look forward to your explanation about the relationship of these 3...

£1500-£1800 to spend, what would you recommend?

Fast lens or slow lens, you can still take good shots. Yes, it is nice to be able to use continual focus and get a high hit rate, but a lot of people will 'zone focus' on a spot where the action is likely to happen....the first bend in motorsport for instance. With a slow focussing lens, that is...

    Nikon MB-D10 grip

It really is a rip off isn't it, the above price in addition to the £230 you have to fork out for the MBD10....£470 in total - yes, I know it is still cheaper than buying the D3

Can Some one please help me with my d300

Portrait mode on cameras is usually f5.6 to f8. Sports mode on cameras will be f5.6. Set the camera to Aperture Priority and the aperture to f5.6 and you will not be disappointed.

    Lens choice

I've tested this on a tripod, with mirror lock up and cable release, it is a ver very sharp lens.

£1500-£1800 to spend, what would you recommend?

Stick with your original choice of the D300 and 18-70 zoom. The D300 and its 51 autofocus points are very useful for any action photography especially when you are using continuous focus and need to get the composition right in-camera. The 18-70 is a fantastic lens, very sharp. As far as a...

    Advice on buying 1st DSLR

From what you wrote at the beginning, you read a lot, so picking up how a camera works will be easy. The shops, for obvious reasons, would like you to buy the D90, then upgrade in 12 months ad infinitum....at some eventual cost. Go straight to the top of the tree and you won't need to upgrade...

    D200 or wait for a D300?

D300 I used the D200 until I had some work rejected from a major picture library for noise at ISO 400. I sold the D200 and bought the D300. The noise is controlled far better on the D300. In addition to which, the viewfinder is amazing - bright and clear to review shots. The 51 focussing...

    EOS 5D Mark 11 - fun survey

I'm going to be boring and opt for a greater resolution, somewhere near 17MP. I mostly photograph travel and landscapes so more detail is what I seek, more importantly, 17MP is close to the 50MB file size that libraries demand....no more upsizing images. As for greater dynamic range, there are...

    EOS 5D Mark 11 - fun survey

Lets' just suppose this camera exists, whether it does or not isn't important. If you were given one feature to improve on the 5D, and one only, which would it be. There are several choices, increase the resolution or MP size; increase the dynamic range; increase the frame rate; put a better...

Question about 1D MkIII for sports use

Oops, clearly didn't read it carefully enough for some, but then I don't have the experience of 3000 posts, I'm out using my camera.

    Next purchase for my camera?

some people use monopods for macro work, rocking backwards and forwards gently to fine focus

    Optimum Aperture

f8 - f11 is said to be the sharpest aperture on most lenses, but that doesn't mean you can't use f16. Look at the apertures for landscapes that people use in magazines, often f16, f22. I personally use f16 exclusively if I am trying to maximize depth of field.

Best lens for motorsport? Please help...

I'd take the 55-250mm, from what I recall about the rallies I once did they can be very dusty. Change lenses in the middle of that and you'll need a 'Dyson' to clean the camera out afterwards.
