    Holy *****!! The Canon EF-S 55-250mm Lens + Raynox M250

I played with the Raynox M250 today, with my Canon EOS 500D kit lens (18-55mm), and was really impressed. I thought I'd try it with my new Canon 55-250mm zoom lens out of interest. Couldn't get it to focus so switched it to manual and just moved closer. WOW!! It's like looking through a...

    Quick Macro Question

Hi all. Resurrecting this thread just to say that I bought the Raynox 250 and I was not disappointed! Really easy to use and excellent results. Can't complain, especially for the price. Thank you to everyone for the advice.

    Nifty Fifty Quick Question

I am new to DSLR's and I have a Canon EOS 500D with the kit 18-55mm lens and a Canon 55-250mm zoom lens. I've seen the Canon 'nifty fifty' lens mentioned and recommended all over the place, even on non-photagraphy specific forums. What is so good about it, and why would I want one when I...

    Raynox DCR-250 or Hoya Close-up +4?

Thanks for the offer Susie - unfortunately I'm in the Midlands so it would be quite a drive! Everyone seems happy with the Raynox, so that's what I'll go with.

    Nikon D5000

I just bought my first DSLR. Originally I bought a Nikon D5000 and had it for one day before taking it back and exchanging it for the Canon D500. Here are the things that I noticed (as a beginner myself) when comparing the two cameras: 1. The Canon D500 screen is bigger and FAR higher...

    Quick UV Lens Filter Question

I know that a UV filter can serve as useful protection for a lens, but does it do anything at all to improve image quality though? Thanks!

    Raynox DCR-250 or Hoya Close-up +4?

Thanks both. Susie - bearing in mind that I would only be buying one Hoya (not the set), would you go for the Hoya +4 or the Raynox? Thanks again!

    Lens Hoods

I know what a lens hood is for, but I wonder, as a beginner to SLR photography, do I really need one or should I save myself £20 for the moment? (I have a Canon D500 with the kit 18-55mm lens, and a Canon 55-250mm zoom lens, both needing an ET-60 lens hood.) Thanks in advance. I only...

    Raynox DCR-250 or Hoya Close-up +4?

The Raynox DCR-250 was recommended to me in another thread, but it's more expensive than the Hoya Close-up +4. Jessops do the Hoya for £30, and the Raynox is £44 from Amazon (can't find it anywhere else). Anyone used both? Which would you go for?

Where do you keep your filters?

Hi, Another beginners question: I haven't yet bought any filters for my DSLR, so I was wondering: where do you keep your filters? Do they tend to come with a little pouch you can keep them in (I'll probably be buying the cheaper Hoya's)? I have a camera bag, but presumably they should be...

    Beginner Canon Lens/Filter Question

Sorry Hugh - would you mind clarifying please? Are you saying that fitting a UV filter and leaving it in all the time is not needed or wise? Maybe you meant that screwing the polariser into the UV filter isn't a good idea? Sorry if I'm being stupid. Thanks again.

    Quick Macro Question

This is good stuff - thanks all! The links were very useful too - I saw some impressive Raynox M250 macro shots that I would be very happy with indeed. Any idea if the Raynox M250 will be any good with a Canon D500 (kit EF-S 18-55mm IS lens, or Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS zoom lens)? That...

    Quick Beginner Polarising Filter Questions

Thanks both for the info, much appreciated. Hugh, a follow-up question based on your comment above: When you are out and about with your camera, how do you determine when you would benefit from fitting a polariser? Do you just always fit it for landscape shots on sunny days? Maybe you take a...
