    Fixation Estimates - How Long?

But surprisingly the 'repair' took a day as all it needed was a bayonet mount replacement... I also got student discount! :-) No labour charges as I sent them a copy of my student ID! :-)

    Fixation Estimates - How Long?

Yes. Tele lenses take longer. I sent them my 400 2.8 last month and it took almost a week for the estimate...

    Fisheye lens

10.5mm is excellent. Surprisingly on fx it works pretty well too. Im currently stunned by the samyang 8mm f/3.5 Has anyone here tried the tamron 10-17, heard its the only fisheye zoom!

    An Odd One

I guess its how older optical devices were initially used, telescopes, periscopes, where you had to shut one eye to see/focus properly. That practice carried on with the inception of cameras, and people photographed with one eye closed. most of us from our childhood days imitate adults who shoot...

D700 or D300 for bird photography

Dear Gary, I've been using a D700 since it came out, and I don't think its good for wildlife photography, as its not supposed to be for it in the first place. The D7000 is merely a D90 upgrade, and cannot be compared with the D700. But considering the OP's budget and plans, it seems to be a good...

Sorry for my bad maths! I guess an arsenal of teleconverters do improve maths! ;-)

D700 or D300 for bird photography

@Len: You see, different cameras are built for different applications. The D800 you tried out is indeed amazing, but it has slow FPS as it is more of a studio camera. Obv Nikon wants you to buy the D4, which is built for speed. Similarly, the D7000, technically a D90 upgrade, is not entirely...

D700 or D300 for bird photography

Agreed. The OP asked for options between D300 and D700 for wildlife, and I said D300, due to the DX factor. A D7000, known as the D300S buster, will be great, and it has better ISO than the D300S. I cannot comment about the focussing speeds and buffer of the two, but the D7000 should be the best...

D700 or D300 for bird photography

Having used a D80/D300S/D700/D7000 combination, the D700 and D7000 have amazing ISO performance, while the D300 series has decent ISO. A chronology of the Nikon bodies allows us insight into the fact that the D7000, launched after the D300S, is known to have ISO as good as the D700. Here are...

D700 or D300 for bird photography

A better answer to the OP would be: A D300 or D400 will give you greater reach, due to the 1.5x crop factor... So for birding, get a dx body! A 300 f4 will be 400 f4, and a 1.4 teleconverter will be ideal!

D7000 Build Quality/Finish inferior to the early models......

Indeed. The sensor is amazing. I don't miss my D700, except for the crop factor element. But considering the fact that Japanese electronics, (think of those rock solid vintage japanese lenses and cameras!) have always been known for their build quality, it kinda sad. Good luck with the tape! ;-)
