3rd party inks or stick to the maker ?

If high quality prints are important to you then perhaps you should only use original manufacturers' inks and use appropriate paper profiles. You'll not have so many problems with colour fading and colour casts.

    Decent photo paper?

To get really good prints you will need to pay meticulous attention to the finer details of how you make your print, including using a good printer, using manufacturer's inks, printer profiles and with a colour-managed screen. As the man has already advised you, "There's ya problem!". You have...

    Project Ideas

How about: 1. Grafitti? Make a collection of images of various types of grafitti locally, if you have any. It can be remarkably successful as I based my RPS Fellowship on grafitti close-up abstracts. 2. Buildings? Especially modern buildings look good when details of them are cropped to square...

    Colormunki problem after PC rebuild

Thanks Jim The solution wasn't mine, but was the result of a conversation between my local computer expert who had rebuilt my PC and a manager in Colormunki UK. I don't know myself whether the "aero theme" is essential (or even what that means) but collectively their joint actions seemed to...

    Colormunki problem after PC rebuild

Thanks to all who offered advice and helped out. At last today, after a month of no Colormunki, I now have the solution. This is to: 1. Turn off the "Aero theme" in Windows 7. 2. Untick the box for "DDC Calibration" in the Colormunki Management software. My Colormunki Photo then...

    Colormunki problem after PC rebuild

No reply so far, and I left a message at 9.30 this morning. It is now 4.45 pm UK time and from trying to phone a little while ago it looks like their Swiss office closed an hour or two ago. It will now be another couple of days before I am able to try calling them again as I am leading a...

    Colormunki problem after PC rebuild

Thanks for this POAH. Yes Colormunki have hints and troubleshooting on their web site, but they don't cover my problem. After some discussion with X-rite I was given a number in Switzerland. I have been waiting for them to answer therm phone for 20 minutes now, and have given up, but have left...

    Colormunki problem after PC rebuild

Don't think it is the RAID setup. I think it looks more like a mismatch between the Colormunki software and the NEC monitor. It works with other monitors. Question is, what?

Colormunki software has been updated and reinstalled a few times. No difference!

    Colormunki problem after PC rebuild

It is the same graphics card, so I am not sure that this is the problem. Stan

    Colormunki problem after PC rebuild

I have just had my PC rebuilt with additional memory etc. (4 drives working in a RAID arrangement with a solid state hard drive and new motherboard). Since the rebuild my Colormunki has stopped working properly and won't calibrate my screen. When I try the screen cycles between black and...

Right Angle Viewer for Street Photography

OK. Thanks for all the advice everyone. Some interesting ideas here. Much appreciated.

Right Angle Viewer for Street Photography

Again, the Sony v55 is hardly unobtrusive for candid photography. I bet it would cost more than a tenner too.

Right Angle Viewer for Street Photography

Yes, but don't they generally work by putting your eye up close to them? Hardly unobtrusive perhaps? LiveView might do a similar job on some dSLRs, but not at right angles, and not if the camera is on a strap round my neck. Standard right angle viewers just don't appear to be designed for...

    Nikon 18-200 VR2 - Loose lens hood

Is it the lens hood that is actually loose, or is it caused by a loose mounting ring on the front of lens that the lens hood fits into? On my 18-200 VR lens this started to wobble with the lens hood attached. I had to carefully lift the rubber seal and tighten up the six tiny screws underneath...
