    Hasselbald X-pan

Good luck with this project. I am impressed with your determination Steve. I like the 6x12 format, which I use on a field camera. Being 12cm long, I am able to make prints from the negatives on my 5x4" enlarger.

    Help choosing colour paper

As a result of the attitude that Kodak showed towards me I changed to Fuji paper and chemistry about ten years ago. I have always been happy with Fuji (Crystal Archive) paper since then, but however, this year they discontinued sheet paper from their product range :'(. I have built a bench...

    Photography Copyright Infringement

Good luck, Ian. You have my sympathy, especially so, as I have lost a small fortune from similar unauthorised use of my photographs.

Architecture photography - Where to start?

I have to disagree with your statement. Being someone who photographs buildings, getting the verticals vertical and the horizontals horizontal is important to me. I use a field camera on a tripod equipped with a head that incorporates spirit levels. It may take five minutes to set the camera up...

    BJP and other magazines

Being a subscriber I get the BJP every week. It can be a bit "hit and miss" with its content but surely that is only to expected given that it tries to cover a variety of subjects from reviews of equipment through to analysis of photographic projects? It is aimed mostly at professionals taking...

    Publicity shots of a bar/club

Take a variety of different shots and let your friend decide. The two types of shot I take are 1. available light only and 2. available light with some fill in flash (usually to light something close at hand, eg table and chairs). For both you need a tripod. More often than not, it is option 2...

    C41 medium format

Most minilab C41 processing machines can handle 120 film. You need dedicated cassettes (and someone who knows how to load the film:)). However most minilab printing machines need (very expensive) extra lenses and negative carriers which the minilab operators choose not to buy (understandably as...

Anyone on here use a Mamiya 7 MK2?

Most medium format cameras have reflex viewing, that is viewing through the actual lens. Rangefinders have a separate viewfinder, built into the camera, usually just above and to the right of the lens (viewed from the front). This design allows the camera to be more compact and lighter. (The...

    Fuji Crystal Archive Sheet Paper......

Thanks for your reply. I am aware of Silverprint, in fact I phoned them about buying dry mounting tissue only to get an answering machine, so left a message but didn't receive a reply (this was about 5 or 6 years ago). In the meantime another firm I also contacted agreed to supply the dry...

    Fuji Crystal Archive Sheet Paper......

I produce hand printed colour photographs from 120 negatives using a DeVere enlarger in sizes from 12x8 to 24x20. The paper I am currently is Fujifilm's Crystal Archive (RA4 process). I am on my last box of 24x20 (60cm x 50cm) and have learned that my usual supplier (Photomart) no longer stocks...

    I'm new to 120mmm....a question

As your Bronica takes square photographs, what CT said is correct, 12 on 120 or 24 on 220.

Newbie.... technical issues for action shots?

Does your Minolta have the ability to continually focus on a moving object? If it does, it is possible to take shots of your moving subject as it approaches you. For the "prefocus" suggestion already made, I would focus manually, as it is easier than trying to keep the shutter release half...

What do you know about scanning negatives ?

Realistically, to get the best quality, you'll have to go to one of the Pro labs, which is expensive. (The reason the CDs you have had made so far are poor is purely down to cost - to make them cheap they cut corners, hence poor resolution.) The principle of good scanning is the same for...

    Why Film ?

There is an absolute glut of conventional equipment, whether it is 35mm, medium or large format, available for relatively little money today. If you are discerning enough to care about the final result, then hey, just go for it (and take advantage of the low prices:)).

    Scanning/reproducing large images

Has the photograph been mounted onto a board? If it has, my preferred option would then be to photograph it (as it is flat). Take the photograph on an overcast day using available light. Also, if it was me, I'd bracket the exposure quite a bit.
