Update on this, he has managed to convert the format to something he can edit, however complained that the 4k high bit rate files take ages to render on his laptop (actually they were pretty fast considering)
The good news is that although I’d previously told him to use 1080p as the files are...
Disclaimer.. I’m a long time user at TP, however the A73 video question is for my sons camera (yes he did take 4k video)
I’m not sure what version of AE he was using, however the error was something like unsupported video format. I then tried Handbrake on his laptop (that I installed for him...
Thanks
If FFMPEG supports it then Handbrake should work (I’m not sure how old the version I have, but it uses FFMPEG)
Not looked at Browse, maybe that may do it (it’s implied that Browse is view only though)
The Sony Catalyst website implies there is also a free version of Prepare, however it...
Good evening...
I've posted in the video section a Sony a7 iii video file format question, anyone in this thread able to help? (please reply in the other thread)

Thanks
I'm sure someone must have come across this, it seems the only 4k file format/codec option when videoing 4k on the Sony a7 iii is to use the XAVC format, however this seems to be a proprietary Sony format (trying to bring the footage into After Effects)

You both appear to be saying the same. Most 3rd party lens manufactures reverse engineer the mount as stated, or go the more costly option of licensing the IP
Here is what was stated:

On the lens side of things, the Sony FE/E mount is where all the glass activity is at. It's like a giant Jupiter pulling all the lens makers into orbit around it. Look at this:
Sony — as if to add an exclamation point to my E comments...
And this is what I liked about it..

Sorry for the link and not embedded, and yes the sharpness of the wood is distracting.
Kind of reminds me of that soft focus 80s portrait, but with a modern sharpness.
I guess it has its places, but I'm a big fan of buttery smooth.
When I had my first STF was blown away, especially for portraits.. a sort of soft smooth focus, with a focal plane of sharpess.
I do think it's a marmite thing though.
Its obvious garden time..
(while supper cooking) garden shot with the Sony 100mm STF that arrived today..

Heavily cropped and focus not spot on.. but the STF is slow to focus and it is only an a7.. excuses excuses!!
Original at roughly min focusing...
If I take any landscapes I'm a bit dull, it's usually stock f8 - f11 everything in focus, so as long as reasonable sharp corner to corner as optimum aperture I'm ok; my concerns are CAs (although can be easily corrected), but also lens distortion.
Something like a Nikon 20mm sounds ok, but...
You must have had a bad copy of the Minolta, on the a900 if you shot at f5.6 or above, centre and corners were great, with only really resolution dropping off in the extreme corners.
I found the tests on the web, but images are long gone...
Looks too small to be FF, and wonder on FF what the distortion would be like?
Can only assume it will look more like a fisheye rather than UWA for landscapes etc.
Out of interest, anyone found a decent but cheap UWA landscape lens solution for FE? (Decent and cheap in the same sentence I...
Haha..
I remember a while back when on A mount, getting the Minolta 17-35 then later the Sony 16-35 at x4 the price.
Sold the Minolta to a mate after testing them both, both concluding the Sony was only marginally better, mostly in the in the corners and better contrast, and my mate concluding...
