Like your thinking!!! Would never have thought it would have worked on a 30 second shot though. Would have thought it would need longer but as the picture shows................. :-)
Welcome, Not far from me either, I'm over Great Whitley way a lot and there are so many things I keep meaning to get photo's of that way so I will keep an eye out to see what you post up :-)
I would go with reducing the aperture and use a tripod if your not already, If your after the shallow depth of field maybe you will have to compromise between the DOF and image quality!
Like this image and when you find a fish eye lens for £20 you let me know I'm next in the line at that shop :-)
Well done it really is worth £20 and the rest!!

I took this before I started to get into photography a bit more...
Welcome, I've got the feeling I should dust off my Webley in the loft and take some photo's!! hhmmmmm I think I will!!
Welcome you will learn a lot here, I have and I have the D40x so I know all the information you need is here! :)
Well from what I have gleaned (and its not a great deal) is that the wider the aperture the better maily because of the noise generated by high ISO settings required with smaller apertures (unless ou have an astro tracking mount) So I figure a 50mm f1.4/1,8 would be a great option if it is...
