Raw thumbnail viewer for Windows 7 ?

I'm with you on this one - surely Lightroom must be the easiest and fastest way to locate and view RAW files, at least if you've taken the trouble to set things up properly in the first place! I download my images directly to an external hard drive, then immediately import into Lightroom...

    Understanding sensor size and lenses

The amount of light falling on the sensor is purely down to aperture and shutter speed. There is NO multiplication factor, only cropping factor. The laws of physics cannot be changed. A lens will produce a certain sized image of a subject at a given distance no matter what size film/sensor is...

First task i've been set for my photography course

Your imagination is being tested already. If you're serious about this course, then you shouldn't be asking for ideas on here, but allowing your imagination to wander. It seems a very good project to test new students.

    Harrison Cameras - BRILLIANT

Been using them for years, they are a great bunch and have a very wide range of used gear.

The sun is shining, the girls are wearing short skirts....

Because the mirrors in clothes shops are slightly convex and make them look slimmer than they really are. Also, their friends are too diplomatic to tell them how dreadful they look!!

How do i get that sharper image?? Help please

The 18-55 kit lens could be the problem. When I bought my 300D, the kit lens was very good, but the one I bought with my 400D was dire - I quickly replaced it with a EF-S 17-85 IS. You need to put the camera on a good steady tripod, use either a remote release or self timer, focus using live...

    Deleting raw files in camera

Just to reinforce what has been said by DucDuc, it is better to format the card after downloading images than to simply delete them. Deleting does not remove them from the card, but simply deletes the pointer to the files. While files will be overwritten, there will still be remnants of data...

    Digital compact with proper viewfinder

My wife has a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W70, which although has now been replaced, is a really neat compact and has a decent optical viewfinder. Might be worth checking out the newer models.

    question about pelican cases

I have carried all my photo gear in a large pelican case which was handled so badly at an airport that one corner was broken off. There was no damage to the contents and the case was replaced free of charge under the lifetime warranty. You need to carefully lay out your gear on top of the foam...

    Organising negatives?

I have 6000+ medium format transparencies, all stored in Kenro sheets, on hangers in a filing cabinet. I have used a simple database (Microsoft Works) and all are detailed there. Each sheet is numbered, then the slides are designated within the sheet, e.g. slide 6 in sheet 24 is numbered in...

New camera lets you take shots first and focus later

As far as I can see, their diagram of "light fields" is simply how a lens captures the light from an object and focusses on the film/sensor. Their images show a VERY narrow dof. If they were really offering something new, then from their spiel I would have expected the images to be ultra sharp...

    Help - Photoshop CS3

Have you had a look at the performance settings in Edit > Preferences > Performance?

Why won't this image display in IE ?

I would have thought that an image like that would better be saved as a GIF. If you're using Photoshop and "Save for web", then your problem would have been solved anyway.

    Colour temp..?

There's a very simple answer - shoot in RAW and forget about colour temperature on the camera, simply adjust the colour temp in the editing stage.

    Question (Macro)

I have to disagree most strongly with your comment re the quality of "close-up filters". - actually supplementary close-up lenses (SCLs). By using good quality SCLs - especially achromatic ones, the quality will be better than using extension rings, because the light path through the lens...
