    Teaching photography to kids

Sorry, not a class, I have bought my sort of niece a 1100d because she has shown some interest in photography and her mums slr.. Think she will enjoy leaning and using the camera, but just looking for any tips to keep her engaged.

    Teaching photography to kids

Anyone done it? Anything that worked / didn't work? I think the best article I have seen is http://www.diyphotography.net/teach-kids-photography/ - think I agree with most of that (apart from the 'start with film' bit.. Sure fire way to bore a kid to death given the instant age they live in)...

Very quick one from today's test drive..

Does it save the originals? Can you stitch it in Photoshop to do a better job?

    Sandbags

Those flat arms aren't particularly strong, they're not designed to take any weight, although if the bag also rested on the floor a bit that might not be too bad. This is how I've normally seen them used:

The stands are pretty much as Beyond The Blue posted, but without the free weights on them :D

I think that's how those work, and in the picture they're on a C-Stand, rather than an angled legged "normal" light stand - I think some kind of loop to stop them sliding down the leg would work better - the gazeebo ones I have I wrap around the centre stem with velcro.

Tell that to my X100 ;)

In my (limited) experience just folding them over the leg isn't good enough on it's own - with the legs at an angle they have a tendency to slide off if the stand is pulled directly away from them.

Btw, if anyone wants an official black case I will probably stick mine in classifieds soon.. The neoprene one suits me better

Just do it :) Bang for buck, and bang per square inch it's hard to beat, and it looks great. Tbh, if they had the option of switching it on/off "normally" it's be about perfect (although I do understand why they didn't do that)

    Something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rocwing-STUDIO-SANDBAG-TRIPOD-Double/dp/B007RAJWV4/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1399923181&sr=1-4&keywords=sandbag

    Sandbags

Interesting, but when I say "expensive" I'm meaning "don't expect to pay more than a fiver for one", so that might be in a different league to what you were thinking :)

    Sandbags

I'm not talking anything heavy, just a hotshoe flash or Quadra head with a softbox, potentially on an arm at an angle.. it's more for stability when nudged than any issues with it not standing up in the first place. I've actually ordered some gazeebo weight sandbag things which were pretty...

Anyone got recommendations on cheap refillable sandbags/weights for lightstands? Most of the ones I've seen seem crazy expensive for what they are - I can buy a camera bag for the same price as some of them :p
