End of Windows XP - what now?

I recently had a hard disk problem with an ageing pc. It meant that the current installation of XP was no longer bootable, but the rest of the PC was fine. I simply bought a new hard drive and was then faced with the dilemma of re-installing XP, or going another route. Given the impending demise...

    Canon Digital Photo Professional

DPP is pretty limited as a workflow tool, so you may be better off sticking with what you're used to. However, if you shoot RAW format, I'd push the same image through DPP as well as any other tools you have to see if you think it does a better job of conversion. If you prefer what it does...

    Long Exposure Noise Reduction

This is clearly camera specific as my manual says... "shooting is still possible as long as the maximum burst indicator in the viewfinder shows "1" or higher" the comment with regard to Live View shooting is the same though.

    Long Exposure Noise Reduction

So does anyone have an opinion on whether it is better to let the camera do its LENR or switch it off and try to fix in PP?

    Long Exposure Noise Reduction

Dave you dont actually get to see the exposure, it's just something the camera does before saving your image to the card. I'm pretty confident your 7D will do it, my old 500D did exactly the same thing. As I understand things, it takes a second exposure (albeit without the lens open) for the...

    Long Exposure Noise Reduction

Dave, I suspect your camera is doing it, you just don't realise it (check your manual for the setting info), it doesnt prevent you taking another image as long as the buffer can cope. My point is really whether or not it is worthwhile or if you can do the same or better in PP?

    Long Exposure Noise Reduction

What do you guys do when shooting bulb exposures? Do you have this option turned on or leave it off and handle any noise in PP? Am especially interested as considering getting a 10 stop grad and this could lead to some very long exposure times. As I understand things, if the option is turned...

Locations in the Portsmouth area, night photography

Not sure if it's the sort of thing you'd be looking for and you'd have to go and scout the location during the daylight (it's VERY dark at night) but I'd suggest Hilsea Lines, specifically around Scott Road where there's a tunnel that goes right through.

    Firework Photography. How?

Wish I'd been able to get away from work earlier and arrange to meet some of you guys. Clearly picked the wrong location as I was in a rush and not got a single shot worth keeping. May try city fireworks at cosham during the week.
