    430ex II or 580ex II

I've got one of each (MK1 version), but only use the 580 when I want to use a master/slave set up. Otherwise find the 430 more user friendly due to it's slightly smaller size and less weight. deffo don't go for anything other than canon (or same make as your camera body) where flash guns are...

    Canon 300D

I had a 300D, it is a good place to start, but handle any of the newer Canon models ( I have no experience of other makes) and you'll soon feel like an upgrade. The 350D is smaller by quite a considerable amount and to me feels too small, but again I have no experience of the 400/450 models. Go...

Sigma 10-20mm advice & what size filters?

I too use this lens on a canon 30D. Have to use a cokin wide angle holder as opposed the usual one, and get some vignetting at 10mm, but not at 11 upwards and it's not a problem. I use a screw in sigma polariser but have to watch the effect at 10 to about 12mm as it varies with the light angle...

    protection - filters...polorizer?

You won't want a polariser on all the time, the purpose is to saturate the colours more, especially greens and blues, and to cut reflections from glass, water etc. BUT, you lose some light, can be 2 stops IIRC. best ones, IMHO, will be a screw on so you need to know your filter thread size...

    Personal Website?

I'm currently trying out webstudio.com on a 30 day free download trial. Very easy to build your own site, I'm a technophobe and I had four pages linked up and ready from scratch, no templates, in a couple of hours just trying things out without reading any guides, so it must be easy! You also...

Bag Suggestions Please - Shoulder or backpack

My own choice is a smallish lowepro backpack to which external lens cases can be added as necessary and a lowepro holster type bag which also can have cases attached. I also got a "freebie" lowepro shoulder bag for a mag subscription(which can - guess what? - have a lens case attached!) Then I...

    Canon 50mm F1.2 L V Nifty 50 test

What is the body of the nifty like, does it have the plastic mount of the cheap canon range?

    Sigma 105mm EX Macro ....

Hi, I have this lens, as well as sigma's 50mm macro. Use the smallest aperture you can with a workable shutter speed - not always easy when handheld. f9 for instance, shooting a grasshopper head on, will give you his head in focus but the DOF will extend only aout half way along his body...

    Help please! Border print problem....

Thanks for your help, I've played around with all suggestions but haven't found a solution yet. :'(

    Help please! Border print problem....

Thanks for your reply Stu, but it doesn't make any sense to me at all. If I print any document without a borderless setting, it sets an uneven margin, so if I make an A4 size sheet of grey and print it, it will still have this uneven border. And if I make a border, it still prints unevenly on...

    Help please! Border print problem....

Hi, I've searched this forum but couldn't find the answer to my problem, so am hoping some of you could help please. I am having trouble printing with a regular sized border - one end of a 6x4 print always has a thinner border than the other. I'm using a canon iP4500 printer and printing using...

Can I use a graduated filter for this shot?

The thing about an ND or grey grad is that if you aligned it with the horizon it will also darken the building. I'm not familiar with elements 6, but if it has the same layer functions as PS CS then you could try a layer blend, either "lighten" or "screen" mode might bring the shot out.

    terry pratchett.

I Bought "making money" as an audio book. I have a mix of audios and paperbacks in my Pratchett collection which is pretty much the only fiction I have read since I was bought "going postal" a couple of christmas' ago. Making money is good but I was a little dissapointed as it doesnt have the...

Replacement for canon 18-55 kit lens

When I was pondering the same question I chose the Sigma 18-50 f2.8. BQ and IQ are great, would like the further reach of the 17-70 and don't think the slight loss in aperture at the long end would be a problem, but can't fault this lens which has been very well reviewed in the photo press...
