I think you're nuts are spot on :p I don't think the glare off the crackers detracts from the shot at all, however (and I've not tried this yet) I do remember seeing a vid of taking a watch shot and they took one with lighting to work with the bezel and another lit for the face and then...

I also agree the rust spots add a lot to the shot, making them more natural and just what I'd expect to see in a workshop, clarity, colours and the odd refection are also spot on, well done
