I don't know whether digital cameras are more sensitive to UV or IR light than film but you can make some pretty cool images at night using your digital camera. I haven't tried it with colou film so don't know what the effects are. Here's a link to some good ones that i found on the internet...

i went to talk to a NHS photographer about work experience, and he said now that alot of the photography now is to stop the hospital being sued, he did things like mug shots of the staff and made leaflets/posters and covered the events at the hospital aswell.
