Embassies tend to be targets in riots and uprisings. I'd ask permission before photographing one.

Reading on, I'd be down the police station mate. I've done it before. I knew who was ending them, and they were threatening to "pay my wife + kids a visit" when I went to work. I asked the police to record it, and have a word in his ear, but not press charges yet - just get it on record. Next...

I dont think pro / not pro is a fair classification. The visual obstruction to others I think is fair.

There's always the risk you'll get a jobsworth :( I'd probably chance it, or if not with my slr, borrow a fuji s9600 or such like.
