Getting decent photos at static car shows

I'm am probably a pain to walk round a show with as I'll often wait some time to hope that a particular person might move. It could even be someone in the background as floating heads just behind the car you are photographing can be equally as annoying as someone in front of it. Sometimes...

FD lenses on my 40D - First experiments

The adapter is this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330467828417 More expensive than far eastern versions but I preffered to get something locally sourced (and manufactured?) Craig, my daughter was not being cooperative this morning so I wasn't able to get a...

What lens do I use for this afternoon?

They'd do that even if you were using the 18mm... I'd also say the long one and then the 18-55 in your pocket. If you want to get shots of static car/bike displays you do sometimes need to be able to get quite close to them.

FD lenses on my 40D - First experiments

200mm works OK. Definitely getting a shallow DOF than I'm used to. Cluttered image but I like how out of focus the foreground road surface is. Back on with the 50mm. F2 is really nice. but I don't think I can realistically use F1.4 I'll see if I can find out why. Back to F2

FD lenses on my 40D - First experiments

I have a few FD lenses from when I used to use an AE-1 I inherited from my dad who was a keen photographer. They rarely get used now but having come across "The Lens Doctor's" adapter I thought I'd give them a go, especially as they are possibly better in some respects than my EF lenses. It...

Show me your inside your Crumpler bag pls

I've got a Long Schlong :naughty: 40D with Tamron 17-50 in the top with filters etc on the right and batteries under the grip side of the body. Cards and cleaning kit stuffed into pockets of the front flap. Then in the "secret compartment" I've got the 28-105 and 100-300 lenses. The...

    Brands Hatch...

Oh, OK. That's a shame. Why has it gone? Was a good view for watching. :(

    Brands Hatch...

I've only been to Brands once, a couple of years ago for a HSCC meet. I'm not sure which bit is called Paddock Hill Grandstand but we sat up at the top of this one for a bit, which is just at the start of the hill up to Druids. Gives you this view. (You'll have to stitch them together in your...

    Belated intro

I've been here a little while, and have gleaned some great help and info but don't think I've ever done an intro. Perhaps in one sentence I'm best described as a mid 30s, married, London based car guy. Probably inherited an interest in photography from my dad and except for a few years in...

    canon 40d

I felt much the same but then happened across a second hand 40D in Jacobs in Central London. I paid a little more than they can sometimes be had (£400) but felt the security of getting it from a "proper" shop - with a year's warranty - was worth it.

    canon 40d

I fairly recently went from a 400D to a 40D after considering a 50 or even pushing the boat out to a 7. I'm very happy with mine. Good improvement over the 400 and great value for money.

    photographing classic cars

To get people-free shots often means waiting, particularly if the car is something a bit special. Some shows are worse than others and I sometimes find the number of people walking across in front of me when I'm lining up a shot to be infuriating. I'm sure its worse in the digital age than it...

    Celeb Snapping

I guess not so famous in the UK, but bumping into Jay Leno after a long weekend at the Festival of Speed last year was pretty cool.

Canon EOS 400D thoughts and Buying second hand tips.

My 400D was my first DSLR, bought new 3 years ago. Was great to get back into SLR photography after a period with a compact digital as I had always used film SLRs. It has served me really well (about 17,000 clicks), including quite a few published shots. As has been said, its not as good as...
