Just to add my 2pence to this thread.. I've been using the Gallery2 software, which is free. It's a bit clunky but it's got a mirriad of upload options and build in commerce tools as well, as well as watermarking / comments / etc. I also use the Dreamhosts hosts, who give ridiculous...
