LOL, yeah, weight is a big one here. I can happily say that I have purchased a 500mm f4 and the quality is super impressive, but the thing that does it for me is that crazy soft out of focus area. :)

Thanks for this fella, it looks much better than the 200-500. Would still be good to see the difference the f4 makes :) I also like the idea of being able to add on the teleconverters without pushing the f-stop or ISO too much - currently trying my hand at coastal birds and using the 200-500...

That would be excellent mate. It would be good to see them both in comparison to each other with a fixed subject and varying distances to the backgrounds. I know the 500 f5.6 prime does have better bokeh but how close is it to the f4 - the 200-500 can give some nasty spangled bokeh sometimes.

Would love to see some comparisons between this f5.6 and the f4, for me the thing I keep wondering about is how soft the DOF is on the f5.6 compared to the f4.

Would be great to here your thoughts on how the out of focus areas compare from these two lenses - one being a f5.6 and the other an f4 - I know the answer should be obvious :-) but have nikon managed to work an magic in there to help the f5.6.

I don't know whats going on with these lenses, but MPB know have 4 up for sale and WEX had one up for sale the other week too....

Good to hear the quality is great, I’d read a few reviews but it’s always nice to get it direct from people who’ve used it in the field.

Yeah, knew 500PF would be f8 with tele added, but for those times when you need the extra range it would be ok. I also guessed the the D850 would be ok with its auto focus with this combo. Will probably just calibrate by hand for the tele. What does the 70-200 handle like with the tele added...

Thought I'd bump this thread up again :) I'm currently running a D850 200-500 and was looking to upgrade to the 500PF......I also thought through all the combinations and came to the out come that the best option might be to sell my 70-200 f4 and upgrade to the 70-200 FL and add in a 1.4tele...
