    Social Dancing

Good call - I suspect she's looking out for the next lead to cut in - this was a birthday dance where the birthday person stays in the middle and her partners change as they keep swapping in or stealing her :)

Oo! So those cctv lenses are recommended then?

Oh, maybe I need to stop worrying then...! Would like a longer lens though ... :)

Cheers! I'd love to get a narrower DoF but not possible at that distance with the GF1/20mm/1.7. Wondering if getting a legacy nifty fifty might allow me to squish the DoF a bit (as I gather F-stop is a function of both aperture size and lens focal length, and that it'd expand the softness...

Some worked better than others, I had fun bouncing the flash off the ceiling :) P1020706_FF by sarawallen, on Flickr P1020717_FF by sarawallen, on Flickr P1020718_FF by sarawallen, on Flickr P1020732_FF by sarawallen, on Flickr P1020734_FF by sarawallen, on Flickr P1020737_FF by...

Oh, good call on varying my angles (next time) and yes, letting go on 5 is nice for us follows... :D

Thanks people (and for the compliments!) - I am /part/ of it and could get stuck in but I rather dislike interrupting peoples' dances.. they see me and sometimes I get more attention than others - but typically the shot they pose a bit for goes all wrong! I took some more this Wednesday and...

    Social Dancing

I'm trying in vain to capture good photos of people (couples) dancing socially. They're not well lit. They're generally not predictable. There's lots of them in close proximity so it's not so easy to knock out the background. I'm trying... I now have an external (slave) flash and have...

    Adapter retailer recommendations?

I'm after an FD to MFT lens adapter (I think, as FD lenses seem to be common and cheapish). But there are a tonne of retailers on ebay! About £20 seems to be the going rate for these things but the poor standard of English (even the ones that are apparently shipping from the UK) is making me...

    A Rant from an Autistic

I see autism as on a spectrum - as I suspect I have mild aspects of it myself (though in my case it may just be only-child-ness)! It is daft when it is seen as an affliction - it's just another variation in how some people are made up. Despite the rampant sexism, I like the idea of the...

Well the 14mm is f2.8, the 20mm is 1.7. So you'll not be able to take pictures /quite/ as wide but I think it's worth walking a few steps backwards now and again to get the extra 1.1 stops :)

    Panasonic GF1 Essentials

I'm awaiting a cheapo flashgun, might be fun, might be awful! Had some fun with the 0.45x adaptor yesterday - it's nearly a shame that it goes really soft around the edges when the aperture is wide open - but I quite like the effect anyway :) Not the most perfect photo but possibly the most...

    Panasonic GF1 Essentials

Great - exactly the sort of actual experience I wanted to hear, thank you! :) I've just ordered a cheap slave flash (NEEWER branding), so it'll be interesting to see how that goes - looks cheap but might do the job! I don't have a screen protector and already have scratched it. Ah well. One of...

    Panasonic GF1 Essentials

I'm really sorry if this is old hat now - but my searches (I've tried!) have come up with HUGE threads which I can't seem to pull the useful bits out of... I got myself a GF1 just as they were becoming rare as rocking-horse proverbial (not the bodies, but the kits with the 20mm pancake), a...
