    DX coding range.

Your answer is right in the above Wikipedia article. :) The common film speeds of 100, 200, 400 and 800 can all be determined just by using the first 3 pins in the DX spec, namely ground, S1 and S2. The remaining pins in the first row (S3-S5) are only needed for speeds outside that range. This...

    Rollei Infrared advise ?

I shot some Rollei IR over the past year, see https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/infrared-pictures-of-dundee-on-rollei-infrared-film.741558/ for some examples. It does need a lot of light as the film itself is really more around ISO 200 than 400 and the required R72 filter absorbs about...

    Film Developing in the UK

Looks like Palm Labs in Birmingham has gone now as well sadly. Shame as they'd been in business for nearly 40 years and I was planning on sending them some E6 shortly as they still offered mounting (I'm old-fashioned and like projecting slides). They had been very helpful a couple of times in...

I feel like I just fell through a hole in space-time

It seems to depend on the individual store. In my local one, I popped in recently just thinking they'd have something (hopefully some FP4+ etc) as I'd finally finished a roll and it was a nice day out. Turns out they've ripped out the entire photo department and stuck 3 do it yourself printing...

Are 110 film cameras worth it ?

A big part of the reason for the poor quality prints upon introduction in the 1970s was that Kodak designed an enlarging lens specifically optimised for producing prints from the small 16 mm frames of 110. Unfortunately, the majority of photo labs didn't bother buying this enlarging lens and...

    Asahi Pentax Spotmatic

All Spotmatics have voltage compensating circuitry as an inherent part of the meter design, you can put any substitute in for the original mercury cell and you'll be fine.

    Film Developing in the UK

It unfortunately looks like Club 35 is gone as their website is unavailable and they no longer show up on Google. I'll try again in a few days, but if they have gone it's unfortunate as I always used them for my C41 due to their low dev + print prices (I usually just like flicking through and...

Can I adjust C-41 development recipe to change contrast, saturation and white balance?

You adjust the colour and contrast in the printing or scanning stage with colour neg films. Whilst altering the development process will alter both, it is not recommended as the process is deliberately standardised and there is no real way of knowing what result you will get out. I think your...

    This makes me very happy

Kodachrome won't be coming back, the K-14M process is extremely complex and not interchangeable with practically any part of an other process. Aside from requiring rem-jet removal (which no still films use now), multiple re-exposures to different coloured lights and multiple developers, it also...

    This makes me very happy

Great news, I only shot E100G once but it gave a very nice, natural rendering with very fine grain; I wonder if it's being re-formulated in any way or if it's exactly the same as when last coated in 2012. It won't happen, but I wish they would re-introduce E100VS as well as I loved the...

    That horrible moment when...

It works on using the infrared frame counter (which counts the perforation holes to know what frame the camera is on). Essentially it just remembers how many perforations have passed, and then when the film is re-inserted it moves back to the same position and then winds on as before. It was...

    The Vuescan discussion thread...

Just to check, you did press preview each time you changed the RGB exposure down? And when you were doing the exposure adjustments the colour balance was set to "none"? That cyan colour shows that the leaves are out of the output colour spaces gamut, but they are mostly not over-exposed (that...

Rating Ilford Delta at 1600 or faster

So long as you use DD-X or a similar speed enhancing developer like XTOL you can shoot it at 800 with no change in developing time, and easily push tabular grain films to 3200. Ilford give developing times etc in the Delta 400 datasheet: http://www.ilfordphoto.com/Webfiles/2010628953322222.pdf

    The Vuescan discussion thread...

It's over-exposing the scan as the auto exposure time is too long. Setting the white balance to "none", make sure clipping warnings are on and lock the exposure, bring it down a fraction, then preview. Keep adjusting it down until the highlights are not clipping, then try and increase it to the...
