When I bought my 70-200/4 there was not an IS version Dave so no such choice - it was still a very nice lens though. I have had the IS version for about 6 years now.

Has anyone installed the latest firmware update for this lens yet? I am interested if a Canon 1.4x tc MkII will still work OK after the update (it works fine now).

I have had this lens for a year now and am still surprised at how well it AF's with a 1.4x tc (considering it is actually at f9 at the long end). The AF is both fast and accurate on both my 7D2 and 5D3. You do lose a bit of IQ from the bare lens of course. These were all taken at the full 840mm...
