Velbon Ultra Lux i f. tripod. Sticky handles.

This problem (sticky handles) is caused by a quirk of the chemistry of polyurethane. In brief it reaches a point through ageing where it will break down and become sticky to the touch. It's sometimes quite spontaneous after many years and can be accelerated by exposure to UV light. The solution...

    Photo organising software

Thanks KC and Lesco. I had dismissed Picasa because I don't want to use their web album features but KC's post prompted me to have a proper look at it and it's actually quite powerful. I think I'll give it a try for a while and see how I get on.

    Photo organising software

Hi, I'm after recommendations for software (preferably freeware) which will aid my workflow when first downloading photos from camera to PC. All I'm looking for is something to do the following: - Copy files from camera / memory card reader into folder on PC, creating the folder with a...

How do remote shutter releases work? Calling electronics bods

Sorry if I'm being confusing. I didn't want to go into huge detail to save from boring people with all the details of why I'm doing this, but if you can bear with me I'll explain. I'm not trying to trigger a camera and generator at the same time, I'm primarily going to use the shutter release...

How do remote shutter releases work? Calling electronics bods

Well the output will need to duplicate the function of a single pole double throw switch, not sure whether it has 12V across the contacts or 240V (need to investigate the generator further) but I'm thinking if I can switch a relay using the shutter release receiver I'm covered for all...

How do remote shutter releases work? Calling electronics bods

The ones I'm looking at are RF (433MHz) with 100m range. I'll also need to figure out how to convert what is a momentary action from the shutter release into a latching two state output. ie. one button press = on, next button press = off. Will have to get my flip flops out!

How do remote shutter releases work? Calling electronics bods

Thanks yes I can test one but I haven't bought it yet, just considering the viability. Might as well just get it though as I'll use it on the camera if nothing else.

How do remote shutter releases work? Calling electronics bods

Hi all, I'm looking at a wireless remote shutter release from eBay - item no 370156312827 although there are umpteen which all look the same. My question is how do these units trigger the camera? Is there a voltage pulse which gets applied at the flash shoe, or does it just short out a couple...

    Lovefilm.com

Nearing the end of my free trial now and there's no chance I'd pay for this service, it's been appalling. No fewer than 5 faulty discs in a little over 2 months and each time I complain about this their answer is "sometimes customers don't tell us if a disc doesn't play". Poor excuse, it can't...

How best to test a new lens?

Okey doke, thanks all. I'm off out with it this afternoon (if the rain holds off) and I'm expecting great things from what is officially my most expensive lens

How best to test a new lens?

I've just received a Sigma 10-20mm f/4 - f/5.6 DC EX lens and I know many people have said they needed to return theirs a few times to get a "good" one. Hence I'm keen to check it out thoroughly as soon as I can. Trouble is, I don't know how to test a lens. The obvious answer is to take...
