Thanks so much everyone - this is all very useful. It's also good to know the places to avoid! :-) Having the chance to play with some cameras is important. I'll give some of these a go.

Where would you recommend as a good place in central London to shop for a DSLR - somewhere that will give me good advice & service, and not just try to take my money? Or indeed anywhere you would avoid..... ;)
