Dirty maybe I agree with the others that the Sigma lens won't be as sharp as the Nikon kit lens especially with the aperture fully. I have seen a similar effect on a canon zoom lens that had mould growth on an internal lens element. As the lens is an eBay purchase I would check that it is clean...
