    Lens advice please

I'm not too sure what VR is exactly, but my understanding is that it is a image shake reduction system. I had a Sigma 70-300 lens for my D40, a fantastic lens, although focusing was noisy, but fast. The non-vr 55-200 Nikon lens does have some vignetting (darker edges to pictures) at extreme...

Anyone got any suggestions - (stolen camera)

Never really considered Contents insurance, a first floor flat in a church *was* reasonably safe, or so I thought. My fiancee (wife to be in a week!) have agreed to get insurance as a priority. Had a friend offer the sale of their D80. Giving that some thought...

Anyone got any suggestions - (stolen camera)

wack61 has very kindly offered to loan me a D40 body until after my wedding/honeymoon and I can sort myself another one out. The agreement is : a period of 1 month, with a £125 if I damage/drop/etc the camera. Thank you so much. This kind gesture means a lot to me and my fiancee, which was...

Anyone got any suggestions - (stolen camera)

Typically I never really shot above 400... Except in exceptional circumstances. I guess my photography (being mostly agricultural/people/landscape/flora & fauna) doesn't really merit higher ISO ranges.

Sorry - no other way to get in touch : "wack61 has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space." Rich

Anyone got any suggestions - (stolen camera)

well fwiw, I live in Abergavenny, South Wales. The camera was a Nikon D40 with a Sigma 70-300 lens with a Jessops UV filter attached. On the strap is a remote pouch without a remote in it (it's sitting on my desk), and a 2gb Ultra II SD card. Otherwise, I'm still looking at a new body. My...

Anyone got any suggestions - (stolen camera)

It's quite a good price for the body only, pro-spec features, definitely worth looking into! Saw the review on Steve's Digicams (a preferred review site) and it seemed quite similar in menu layout, button layout etc, except with extras where added. I'll have to look at the budget...

Anyone got any suggestions - (stolen camera)

Cheers.. My budget would be relative replacement value - The D40 I bought for £300, and the lens was £195, UV filter £15, Remote (I do a fair bit of landscape photography) and tripod mount. (Ow! It adds up when it's attached to your camera) I was intrigued by the D200 as an option. I...

Anyone got any suggestions - (stolen camera)

Hey all, So far, I've had a bad day. I awoke to the sound of police at my door, and my flatmate showing me evidence of a break-in. (I sleep very heavy). Upon cursory inspection of upside-down room, I noticed a broken laptop was missing, then the horror hit. Some scuzzball had swiped my...

    Streetlights 'orrible red cast

Solved - Installed UFRaw, which does an excellent job of processing RAW images, so I'll be using that a bit. Used it quite a lot on Linux, and glad it's available of Windows too... Thanks guys!

Gah! GIMP doesn't open my NEF files. Back to the forums to find the answer to this one... :(

    Streetlights 'orrible red cast

Thanks! I'll look into the whole white balance thing and get back to you if there's no luck... Nikon's Software doesn't really have much in the way of advanced features, hence using GIMP. I just use Nikon's Picture Project to manage the photo's. Rich

    Streetlights 'orrible red cast

Okay, I'm trying to expand my nighttime photography, and yet any shot has a horrible red cast to it. Bloomin sodium vapour streetlights.... So what can I do about it? Is it some I can reduce in post production, or is there a trick I'm missing in the actual photographing stage? Note: I...

How long does the buzz last ???

My buzz started in college (about 13 years ago) when I was doing Nursing... I had to take an 'elective', a random subject. None of them really grabbed my attention, but I optedfor photography. My dad lent me his old heavy Practika (Praktica?) which had no light metering due to a drop. I had...
