    I'm after a good "compact"

Hmm, the X10 really does look like an excellent option. Never had a Fuji product before, though.

    I'm after a good "compact"

A local shop has the G12 on sale for £250 this month. The same shop wants £499 for the Sony :(

    I'm after a good "compact"

It's more than twice the price of a G12. If I wanted to spend that much money, I would rather spend a tad more and get the Sony NEX-6 which sounds VERY promising.

    I'm after a good "compact"

So then, it's not always I can be arsed to flog along my 7D, especially when I don't intend to take any pics on a daily trip somewhere, but some times it'd be handy to have something better than my smartphone for that golden opertunity. I've been looking at the Canon Powershot G12, as that's...

Portrait lens for Canon EOS450D - limited space!

I'd like to reccommend the fifty mm myself, but I'd rather go for the 1.4 as the build quality is miles better.

how far to get a unique shot?

Holy ****, I got dizzy just watching that. I used to love climbing and height never bothered me, but ever since I became a father, I can't stand the thought of heights. I even get nervous when I know I have to book a flight these days. Wtf is wrong with me?

    Replacing 18-55mm IS

You wont regret it. The first lens I got for my 550D was the 55-250, and I was very pleased with the IQ. AF speed isn't too impressive, and it's a bit noisy when zooming\focusing, but overall, you'd be hard pressed to find something better in that reach on a low budget.

Newbie wanting to know about lenses :)

I've got to agree with Graham here. When I got my 550D, which was my first DSLR, I went into a shop, said that I'd ordered the 550D with a mem card and carry case off the net for this and that price (which was the truth). I told them that if they could match that price, I'd buy it off of them...

    D7000

I don't see how it's pointless. There'll always be people who haven't got a DSLR yet, and for those potential customers, the D7k would be an excellent tool to start with. Granted, I'd rather buy a D90 if it was me, as it's almost as good but at a much cheaper cost.

    Dual core, Quad core ?

Even though you've been in IT for 33 years, you don't have to use a CPU from when you started out. Seriously, a 2.4 Mhz CPU ;) But in general, with Win7, a quad core CPU will on the long term perform better, when everything is taken into consideration, but if you're going to compare action by...

EXIF Viewer for Windows 7 / IE 8?

You need the FF extension to make it work in FF. The link is in the bottom of the page you already linked to ;)

    Canon 20D application needed

Even if someone uploaded the actual app from the disc to the net, you wouldn't be able to install it, the setup would ask for the disc, no matter what. You really need the physical disc. What about the disc you got with the 350D? If you still have that, you could use it, then upgrade the app via...

    New Camera

Yeah, I've used the D300 and it's a brilliant camera. The build quality, focusing, ISO handling, well, the entire lot just reeks of quality. It's probably one of the best all round cameras out there, but that's just my humble opinion. The 300s is even better for those into sports and wildlife...

D90 for a slight upgrade, D300 for a massive upgrade?

    new camera

I've got the 550D, my first ever dSLR, and I haven't regretted my purchase for a second. It's easy to use, feels great in my hands, it's light, quick, performs well @ high ISO, and overall I think it's great value for money. If you're slightly interested in video, its video capabilities are...
