Depends what you printer and media you use. Some may say it doesn't make a difference but from my experience it certainly does. I have a 500d and have printed some wallpaper prints on my hp and they looked great. Literally my whole wall was a landscape. :-) So go for it is my answer :-)

H there You need either a solvent or a latex printer. As these are waterproof. You will then need a seal either gloss or matt which ever you prefer for it to not fade in the sunlight. There are many different medias you can you print on, it sounds like you will need a simple vinyl material...
