do laptops still use docks, ? I've got an 8 year old Fuji Lifebook A531. wireless usb mouse + keybd. 19" monitor (quite old for a monitor). I'd never use my laptop regularly if it was the built in keybd+trackpad+screen. wireless kbd+mouse leaves me one usb port free for a hub for more drives...

to say on this....a lot of laptops (I'm using one) you can plug external monitors in. standard DVI or HDMI cable SSD in a laptop,,,it'll probably be faster than most 5-10 year old desktops?

the thing I'm not keen about on the Sony, is the no option of 720p video. also it hasn't got great zoom. the Canon SX730 seems to tick all the boxes, apart from the fact it has a 1/2.3" sensor, rather than the RX100 3's 1" sensor (which I'm guessing...is one of the reasons it has higher zoom?)

is there any noticeable difference? (bsi sensor I assume) my photo resolutions won't be more than 10 megapixels. at the moment I'm using 2560*1920 5mp which is 'more than enough'

so looking at some other models, with a 1 inch bsi-sensor and a popup flash, 720p capable and controls that look decent, and a budget of £400, the only other model is the Panasonic Lumix LX10 is a 1" sensor very important - better than a 1/2.3" bsi-cmos sensor? I doubt I'll be using more...
