Who is your favourite landscape photographer?

I enjoy Joe Cornish's work at a technical level, but I get more out of looking at Peter Leeming's pictures.

    Recommended SSDs around 500GB capacity

When I did this, I replaced my system volume (i.e. C: drive). Acronis TrueImage (the software I got with the SSD) cloned my existing system volume onto the SSD and marked the SSD as bootable. On restarting the system, which was now booting off the SSD, the old disk was still visible, but...

    Recommended SSDs around 500GB capacity

Samsung have just released a 16TB SSD. Whilst this is an enterprise-grade part which will be unlikely to cost much less than £5,000, it will have the effect of bringing down SSD costs across the board. The only reason I haven't switched away from the rotating rust volumes in my PC (the OS and...

Crucial MX200. Bringing you these words right now.

Is it now simply called Windows ?

There was a lot of "who moved my cheese" with Windows 8. It seemed to me as though people have forgotten how to adapt to change. Some of these people managed to go from 8-bit computing to DOS to Windows 3 to Windows 95 with less wailing and gnashing of teeth than which greeted a full-screen...

Or sooner, if you're lucky, and Cthulhu eats you first.

Is it now simply called Windows ?

Fortunately for you, you're completely wrong! Windows 7 will drop out of extended support in 2020, so you're good for a little while yet.

Selling it all for 1 lens 1 camera.

If it's about the gear and scratching an itch, go for it. I don't wear an Omega watch because i think it's a more accurate clock or has more features than my plastic G-Shock (nope and nope), I wear it because I like the look and feel of it. (And there's some irrelevant-to-real-life nerdery about...

    Pancake lenses

I have the Canon 40mm f/2.8 pancake, and I like and use it a lot. It is incredibly small and light, has quick and quiet autofocus (in fact, I really wouldn't recommend using it in MF mode; the STM means that the focus ring is an electronic actuator, and isn't physically connected to the lens...

    Anti virus Question

It's interesting because of what they focus on - securing their identity and ensuring that passwords aren't shared. Whereas non-experts focus on securing their computers, which will do you absolutely no good whatsoever when someone compromises your accounts because they used your Facebook and...

    Anti virus Question

Interestingly, if you ask security experts, antivirus is not on the list of the top 5 things you should do to keep safe online. Source

    Anti virus Question

Windows Defender is fine if you practice safe browsing (i.e. don't visit dodgy sites, and do install an adblocker). I chucked third-party AV/antimalware about five years ago (when AVG went from a lightweight AV program to being a massive intrusive "security suite") and haven't looked back, with...

Which camera should I recommend ?

Second-hand 550D or similar. Will provide decent pictures in full auto mode, and has "scene" modes. Easily doable for under £200 on the Bay of Fleas. Dunno about you lot, but I find DSLRs much easier to use than compact/bridge cameras.

No-one is diminishing the personal tragedies caused by such events (or, if they are, they shouldn't be). But that is not what is at issue - which is the overall risk of injury or death, to any particular person, from acts of terrorism. This risk is simply miniscule. 52 people were horribly...
