First paid photography gig, need kit advice!

As already mentioned, sounds like you must have a good idea of what set up to use etc as they have seen and liked your previous images. As you know the venue that your shooting in, I imagine you have a fair idea of what lenses would suit best. Of the lenses you list I would suggest that the 50mm...

    £250 DSLR Alternative

If its not too late, Argos are doing the canon sx510 bridge camera for half price at £140. Not sure how good they are but might be worth a look as another alternative.

A good budget canon macro lens recommendation

Depends how budget you want to go, I made one from an old lens that no longer functioned, and a rubber hood (of the screw on filter variety). I Cut the top element out of the broken lens, leaving some of the surrounding plastic lens tube then flipped it around and inserted it into the rubber...

    Help with my situation please

Have you thought about hiring a lens for the day? I did this with the sigma 35mm 1.4 its a great lens for inside church/castle for weddings. I used it on my 5d mk1 with great results, ISO isnt as great on the mki as the mkii so helped me out keeping the ISO down. I also had the older 50mm 1.4...

    Camera for Concerts

Hi, Im no expert when it comes to gig photography but in my opinion the best option for low light on a budget would be a second hand prime lens coupled with a good second hand body. I have always been a canon user so for me it would probably be something like a 40D aprox £250 with either a...

Shooting weddings with a 50mm prime & 70-200mm zoom - bad or good?

How about the option instead, if you can afford it, trading in your 40D for a 5D classic, guessing you would need around £200 or so. This way you could keep all your lenses and still dip into the full frameness, thus giving you an idea of how your lenses would perform on a full frame camera...

Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM or......

Another vote for the 100mm f2, cracking lens, though have not used the 85mm personally.

    Canon 70-200 L 2.8 lens

Hi, Sorry if i didnt come across very clear, i meant that if you are looking at buying a new 2.8 non is (around £850) then perhaps you could look at a Used MK1 IS instead as they sell second hand for about the same value. Cheers Pete

    Canon 70-200 L 2.8 lens

I was in the same position a couple of years ago. This was before the mk ii came out, and the mki IS 2.8 was still about £800 more than the non IS 2.8 and the F4 IS. So it was between the same two lenses that you are looking at. For myself, I felt that i would prefer the 2.8 non IS over the F4...

Canon EF 100mm f2.8L Macro IS USM Lens £469.99 (£414.99 after cashback)

Wish i had seen this in time. I got fooled by the currys one instead, just a few days before :( Still glad some of you managed to get hold of the proper L lens version at this price. Great deal, ill just have to keep my eyes peeled for any further deals :)

    Full Frame or not...

Hi Bobsp, If it helps here is my experience: I went from a 40D to a 5D mk1, and was wowed by the improved image quality. Full frame is great for portraits and landscapes, and also improved lowlight capability. The only draw back for me was when i wanted to shoot motor sport as the 40D...

    Review 5d vs 40d vs 1d mk3

Yeah your probably right, like i say not very scientific. The light was ambient and it did take a couple of hours to do the whole lot. I went through each camera first with each lens and through each aperture, before i began again on the next camera.so light did change throughout the test...

    Review 5d vs 40d vs 1d mk3

Hi, This is more of a comparison rather than a review but thought this would be the best place for it. I decided to have a go at taking a series of images using all my cameras and the majority of my lenses to see what differences there were between each camera and lens combinations etc...

Where best to spend upto £300 on a lens?

For what its worth: All though i have not used one of these, Sigma do a 30mm 1.4 for aps-c cameras that gets good ratings, better than the canon 35mm f2, which is quite old now, a newer version has just come out with USM and IS, but is around the £800 mark. If however you do go for a 50mm...

£400 to spend. What would you buy?

Personally, i think a 40D would be a better investment than a 450D. Just better build quality ergonomics and overall a better camera, for not a lot more than a 450D. As mentioned earlier a 50mm 1.8 would be a good choice also. You could probably get both and still have a little cash to play...
