How about the option instead, if you can afford it, trading in your 40D for a 5D classic, guessing you would need around £200 or so. This way you could keep all your lenses and still dip into the full frameness, thus giving you an idea of how your lenses would perform on a full frame camera...

I was in the same position a couple of years ago. This was before the mk ii came out, and the mki IS 2.8 was still about £800 more than the non IS 2.8 and the F4 IS. So it was between the same two lenses that you are looking at. For myself, I felt that i would prefer the 2.8 non IS over the F4...

Yeah your probably right, like i say not very scientific. The light was ambient and it did take a couple of hours to do the whole lot. I went through each camera first with each lens and through each aperture, before i began again on the next camera.so light did change throughout the test...

Personally, i think a 40D would be a better investment than a 450D. Just better build quality ergonomics and overall a better camera, for not a lot more than a 450D. As mentioned earlier a 50mm 1.8 would be a good choice also. You could probably get both and still have a little cash to play...
