My opinion is that EF 50mm f/1.8 STM is the lens you anyway must have it. When I was a beginner, I enjoy the EF 50mm f/1.8 a lot - a 50mm prime really helps you learning how to shoot very very fast. So, I vote for the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM, no matter what kind of photos you are interested in.

I am not a UK national but I have lived in the UK for 9 years. I usually buy cameras and lens from my homeland, Taiwan, and as long as you do not shatter them, these equipments are all the same. Thus I find no reason why you cannot buy cameras and lens from grey market - if you just shatter...
