Cheap way to get directional light for small items

I'll try and pick up a copy, I just picked up two anglepoise lamps from town so I can try some practice shots over the weekend, handy really as I needed a desk lamp anyway!

Cheap way to get directional light for small items

i've seen a lot of cheapie setups on amazon, ebay etc... that look like very cheap plastic torches, I don't know why I didn't consider anglepoise lamps!? Two of those would probably be perfect, thanks for the idea.

Cheap way to get directional light for small items

I'm totally new to the world of lighting but want to take some photo's of my watch collection and my wife's craft/baking products. What is a good way to get cheap side and back lighting? I have crudely constructed a light tent with some very thin white cotton and I have a good size piece of...

Which Metz flash for micro 4/3rds?

I have a Panasonic G2 and want to get a Metz flash to improve my low light photography and try new things. As I've never used an external flash before I have no idea on the differences between models and the difference in sizes. I can't find specific dimensions on the Metz site and the tech...

Picked up my new camera today....a GF1

Sadly I don't think there is such a thing (and my bank balance can confirm it!)

Info needed on Panasonic G series.

I think a lot depends on two things - do you want to shoot video (forget the g1 if you do) and what lenses will you be considering? If you plan on having a longer zoom like the 45-200 or the 14-140 I'd advise the g1/g2 as both of these have a chunkier grip and make using these lenses more...

    Going from DSLR to Bridge

A G1/G2 with 20mm pancake will easily fit in a jacket pocket, i had a d5000 and d90 and although there doesnt look much difference between the d5000 and the G1 in size, in hand its considerable, weight also plays a factor and the d5000 is much heavier. Compare a G1 with 20mm prime and a D5000...

    Going from DSLR to Bridge

I think classing micro four thirds cameras as 'bridge' cameras is totally misleading. They are in a totally different class.

    Downsizing

I've just done exactly what you're thinking of doing. I sold up my D90, 18-105, 70-300 and flash and got a Panasonic G2 with 20mm Pancake. I chose the G2 as although i wanted to downsize i still wanted enough controls so i didn't have to wade through menus and the G2 has buttons aplenty! I...

Nikon "claim" I broke my camera... :(

I had a similar thing with sony and an Xperia phone, (it had a fault - they said i broke it). It took a dozen calls and letters to directors to get anywhere. This seems to be a regular warranty cop out. I'd say pay the £55, buy a new camera or prepare yourself for a month of constant phone...

    Sony NEX-5, Panasonic GF1, Olympus EP-1

I'd be interested to know where you found that pen deal. I agree the APS-C sensor is the ideal but I always keep iso low anyway, the lumix G's are fine up to 800 and usable at 1600 and I guess I'd limit myself to 800 and under. For me I think the lens choice swings it, especially the 20mm. I...

    Sony NEX-5, Panasonic GF1, Olympus EP-1

I'm in the same position, going to downsize my Nikon kit. I've ruled out the Sony because of the lenses and menus, I still want to have real buttons! I held the Nex5 and it really didn't feel good to hold once you had a zoom lens on it. I also don't like the way the lens is higher than the...

Career(ing!) into the world of DSLR

Would it not be wise to get a good 2nd hand slr and learn what you are doing before diving straight into the pro Market? You have to be extremely proficient to be a wedding photographer or you risk ruining the memories of someones big day. This is in no way a dig to the op but I often wonder...

Landscape lens - Prime or Zoom?

I'd personally avoid a prime for landscapes as its not always possible to get yourself into position to frame your shot properly, avoiding the fixed focal length of a prime will open up a lot more opportunities.
