I'd just like to throw in that coming from a bridge camera with an 18x zoom - having to stick with a single fixed focus lens is probably going to frustrate you very rapidly. IMHO you would be better off with the kit lens to begin with so at least you have some flexibility.

Be careful when looking at home theft cover from the specialist insurers, you will probably find that the small print includes clauses stating that your windows and doors have to meet a minimum standard, obviously if they don't meet the required standard then you're not covered if someone breaks...
