    Warning to all using RMSD

Looks to me as though the Royal Mail has brought in these restrictions so that they can use air transport as part of their distribution system without having to distinguish between items. Hence the fact that they quote from ICAO Instructions and refer to IATA guidance. Using air transport is...

    Nikon 300mm ED f5.6

But, fortunately, yours is not that version; see link. Yours is the Nikkor 600mm f/5.6 IF-ED: link1 at Photography in Malaysia, that includes this pdf diagram link2 at Nikon And, I take that you have done this:

    Nikon 300mm ED f5.6

First: have a read from page 149 of your manual "Non-CPU Lenses" and see if that helps. Second: did you get your lens from RamCo?

    Problem with D7100

Very difficult to suggest anything without more information. Seeing the camera would be best, but as that's not possible can you tell us what settings you have it on, which lens is fitted, anything you've done with them recently... I see that you had a D90 and so should know what you're...

AF question, do I need to worry ?

You've done what the manual advises for one of the error messages: "F - - (blinks): No lens attached – Solution: If a CPU lens is attached, remove and reattach the lens." If the lens doesn't give you any trouble for the next few days, then it may have been a dirty contact. I think you'll...

    Crop factor confusion

Using a focal length of 50 mm and a DSLR with CF of 1.5 compared to a focal length of 75 mm and full frame on the calculator (link) confirmed this for me. (Have a play with the advanced mode.) And there's a tutorial too: link.

Try the Nikon Lens Simulator: link...choose a scene, your lens focal length and its format, then you can swap the body format to see the effect on fov and image selection.

    In need of outdoor clothing

Thanks for that, Carl. They do look like a fairly heavyweight item and it's useful to be able to compare them to others that are available, eg the 500 g (I presume that includes the webbing belt that comes with them) of the Country Innovation Falcon Trousers I mentioned above.

    In need of outdoor clothing

They do look to be very capable, but how much do they weigh, please? I can't find that info on any of the several sites I have found selling or recommending them. Thanks...

    In need of outdoor clothing

Have a look at Country Innovation trousers: link. I don't have any of their gear, but I was looking or alternatives to my usual Paramo travel trousers and saw someone saying that birders seem to plump for Paramo or Country Innovation trousers. They have a range of prices according to their...

    Travel Tripod

You're right. I'd assumed (probably wrongly) from the OP's post and choice of tripod that is experienced and that "backpacking around Iceland" wouldn't be quite as arduous as 2+ weeks in Africa or India. Another good point.
