    Northern Lights *Alert* (Threads Merged)

Just seen on the weather forecast here in the South East of England that tonight between cloud cover, it may just be possible to see the Aurora Borealis - any photography tips for a newbie, other than to just enjoy it, if its visible? Many thanks and if anyone grabs a pic or two, please post...

    Blurring foreground bars

Thanks for all the replies. The precise shot itself wasn't really all that important, its just more the approach I was trying to learn for setting up shots like that one where bars/fences/things get in the way of what you actually want to take a picture of, so you've all been helpful in your...

Are Nikon and Canon the two main/best brands?

You've got a point there too - I'm sure we had a camcorder in the 80's with a similar looking style!

    Blurring foreground bars

Thanks guys - unfortunately there's a barrier before the bars so you can't get any closer to them, but I shall try manual focus and wide aperture next time, although I'm ultimately trying for a widescreen panoramic effect so might not be able to use much zoom.

Are Nikon and Canon the two main/best brands?

HOW MUCH????!?!?!   £30k for a camera with no lens???? Can you even insure a camera worth that much??????

    Blurring foreground bars

Can somebody please tell me how you would focus on the background rather than the foreground in a shot like this test one from today (very cold, so didn't play for too long). I would like to try and take some proper shots from this floor and want to get the bars as invisible as possible - are...

    Printing on a CD

Look, less of the attitude please, I thought this was supposed to be one of the most friendly forums on the internet! I'm just trying to point out to somebody starting out in using CDs as a way of storing data that from a technical point of view, its not as simple as just writing or printing...

    Printing on a CD

It depends on how long the ink has been on, the type of pen used, how hard you press and the type of top surface too, but chances are in the long run the writing on the disc will mess up the reading of it by the drive.

    Printing on a CD

Look there's no point in arguing about it - try it for yourself - write on a cd like this: http://www.artsncrafts-ideas.com/img/invitation/_invitation_cd_autocollants_1.jpg and test it in a few weeks or months time - chances are it probably won't read consistently, and do you want to risk your...

    Kitchen Print Ideas

Thanks for that - after ruminating for a while, I did conclude a triptych might be just the ticket...black and white - nice idea...hmmm, a black'n'white kitchen themed triptych...wonder wonder wondering...hmmm, two pints of guiness and a packet of crisps?

    Printing on a CD

Afraid not - have you tried reading any of your 3 year old CDs recently? The ink bleeds through to the data eventually. Writing on the clear plastic inner circle before the data is fine though, which is what I do. Better still, back it up somewhere else too, preferably to HD. I don't like...

    Printing on a CD

I've used both the Epson and Canon CD/DVD printers to print CD labels/covers and designs for the CDs/DVDs themselves for work purposes and they are generally very good. Be prepared to lose a few blank CDs in the process of tweaking the designs to fit if you are looking for accuracy. A stack of...

    Kitchen Print Ideas

OK, this is slightly OT, but I've got a 6ft long x 3 ft high space on my kitchen wall above a shelf over the sink that I'd love to put a nice canvas / print of a picture on, preferably one that I've taken or am yet to take. My question is, what sort of subject works best in kitchens as a piece...

Advice for tomorrow! My first baby!

Thank you so much for the guidance - re: the flash settings - I meant from the point of view of not hurting the babies eyes (which are probably going to be closed anyway, but I don't want to upset the little one!) - I only have the standard inbuilt flash - I'm not quite sure about the Auto...
