It sounds like light pollution, one way to reduce it is to change your white balance to Tunsten, it will cool the image down :) Also make sure you shoot in RAW, that way you can also make exposure changes etc....

There is also a great vantage point from a pub called The Scott Arms at Kingston (south of Corfe) you can take some pics in the garden and grab a pint ;)

Have a look on eBay, canon have a refurbished sales channel, their user name is canon_uk1.I have bought a few bits from them, they have a 600d on there for £379. They all come with a guarantee, and menu people say they are better than new as they have been fully checked over..

If your using the 50mm, you would probably be best with an overcast day (we have lots just now) tripod mounted, and the fstop as high a possible (f22) Set the camera in to manual mode and play with the shutter time, balance this with the movement and if too bright / dark play with the manual...
