400D is 10.1 mp, yes, 500D is good update. :) personal opinion is to go for Canon 50D bit costlier but worth for money. PCP

You can also try in PICASA free application. Once done you can export to desired format like wmv, avi, mov later you can burn it as DVD in any burning application.
