Yes makes perfect sense ... in the instance I was talking about that prompted this thread the riders were relatively slow moving in snow though not willing to ride the sections again to allow me to play around with varying settings.
Thanks for the input ... the photography learning curve is...
Just spent a weekend in Cairngorms mountain biking (mainly pushing through snow) .. when taking some shots of friends riding toward me with the snowy Cairngrom backdrop I end up with rider underexposed.
There isn't much time to compose or reshoot shots as its cold and everyone wants to make...
Valid for next hour or so ...

Good saving plus cash back to boot :)
Thanks Ralph ... think I am sold on a Pentax now .. its does seem a great camera for my proposed end use.
Now just to hold tight till the sales start this week :)
Thanks fellas ... does seem to be a lack of love for Pentax though using a comparison site like Snapsort they seem to fair very well against like for like models by Nikon and Canon.
In the midst of shortlisting a DSLR purchase and I noticed that the Pentax K50 is 'weather sealed'
As I foresee the camera will be carried when I go cycle touring so weather sealed sounds like a real bonus but how much protection does it realistically afford ?
Racing in Finnish Lapland in February so happy to have found this thread as will have a few days after the event to play ... I would definitely say a thin liner glove supplemented by a heavier overmitt and sized so the mitt allows good movement of fingers inside is a good idea .. sounds stupid...
Is there a good beginners guide to using filters anywhere ? I have been reading about their use but wouldn't mind a more comprehensive guide as they aren't really throwaway money to get the wrong ones.
Intersted to hear your thoughts on the D3200 Forkbeard .... I have also been looking at second hand but at the 'beginner' end of the DSLR market they seem to hold their value very well so the differential between used and new is often negligible
