    The 17-40 is more suited for full frames so I wouldn't recommend one for your 60d anyway.

    Agreed. Go for the 15-85 if you need that kind of range. Should be able to source one for less than £500 too.

    Tamron 17-50 with/without VC?

    The VC is supposedly better when shooting video, handheld, but when it comes to image quality I think most people agree the non-VC is better.
