    image stabilization what's the verdict

Thanks for the feedback. The two lenses I'm considering aren't Canon ones but the Sigma 18-125mm f3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM and Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD The former has paning mode IS, the latter - which of course is the longer lens - doesn't

    image stabilization what's the verdict

I was just about to start a thread about IS but thought I'd ask in this one instead. I'm looking to buy a new lens for my 400D and want IS. Both the lenses I'm considering have IS but only one has a 'panning-mode'. As I do a fair bit of motorsport shooting I'm wondering how much of advantage...

    Testing lens performance

Thanks for the feedback, and apologies for being slow to reply but today has been the first opportunity I've had to revisit this. I looked at the shots in the Canon software which shows which AF point(s) were used and curiously different shots used different combinations even though, for each...

    Testing lens performance

Doesn't seem so bad around f/13 to me - or does that look soft to you? Yes, seemed OK in the viewfinder.

    Testing lens performance

My Sigma 70-300 APO DG lens is known to be "soft" and I've been getting quite varying quality with it. I've put most of this down to my technique but today I decided to test it to try and find out how much the lens contributes to this variation. I took a total of 48 shots of a brick wall at...

    so god damn mad!

Or, perhaps the one he's complaining about isn't the one he bought off you? Did you security mark yours in any way?

    Which Photoshop programme?

Why not give GIMP a try first and see if it does what you want/need? It's an Open source - i.e. FREE :) - PS-like program. If it does then you've saved yourself some money; if not then it hasn't cost you anything. Personally, I've not found anything it can't do when I've followed PS tutorials...

    Fed up with software

One way to get rid of them is to put an entry in your hosts file pointing to the loopback adaptor on your own machine, that way you will just get an empty box instead of the ad. On Windows the hosts file (might be hosts.txt on Windows) is somewhere like /Windows/system32/etc. Open it in an...

    Fed up with software

The golden rule with any Internet package is never, ever, ever use the supplied CD as it will always install carp, such as Google/Yahoo toolbars, branded versions of IE etc. etc. Contrary to what the instructions may say there is nothing special about any ISP's 'net connection in the context of...

    400D: Cancelling Exposure Lock

A couple of times when I've been meaning to press the AF point selection button I've inadvertently pressed the Exposure Lock button instead. The thing is there doesn't seem to be any way to cancel it other than to take a pic or turn the camera off. I've checked in the manual but it doesn't...

    The terrorism act?

We know that;the problem is that there is an increasing incidence of Police and other "officials" trying to stop people taking photos on public land, using the blanket excuses of terrorism, paedos, and even the Data Protection Act :bang: That is what this thread - and Austin Mitchell's EDM -...
