    Gig recording

51 just adding to what has been mentioned above about feeds from the live desk and Zoom (etc) recorders go. As mentioned above, at pub gigs not ever member of the band is guaranteed to go through the desk. The sound engineer at the gig will (hopefully) work the sound from the band according to...

    Hi8 to PC?

Hi Chris, No you're in the right place, at least as far as I am concerned you are. You're HI8 will have 2 main outputs, S-VHS (S-Video) and Composite. The S-VHS is the circular connector with four pin socket and the composite Is the singular phono connector which is usually colour coded...

    Confused about Manfrotto 502.

Looks like the first is a flat mount for photographic tripods and the second is a 75mm ball and socket for video legs.

    re heading thread

Personally I think 'photography' as a heading covers camcorders too. The principals are broadly the same whether it's stills or moving images. I'd just ask any questions you want.

    Static Camera to film sports

Does it have to be an IP/network camera? You'd be better off with some form of video camera but you would need to then feed it's video into your server system. Alternatively you could go for an Canon EOS of some kind which has the benefit of being remotely controllable for a lot of functions...

    Which tripod?

If you are going new have a look at the smaller Sachtler, in terms of video legs. They are industry standard. Tend to cost a bit more money but when they're looked after they keep the value. I bought a Sachtler DV2 with two stage ally legs for £350 about 5 years ago and sold two months ago for...

    Which tripod?

I'll give you a review as I own one. Avoid! It's a cheap and cheerful excuse for a video tripod. It's light weight and won't hold a camera steady enough to shoot good video. It has a centre level spreader which makes it difficult to set on awkward levels and impossible to set lower than...

    Running shop advertisement video

Pretty sure what you had was a mic with two capsules in it. (or a balanced mono mic - has a jack on it like stereo headphones but it's mono) A mic is just an electronic version of an ear and we need two of those in order to discern the location of sound. It's the same for mics, how the capsules...

    Running shop advertisement video

Hi Phil, I understand what you're saying. Mono mic lead into your camera or audio recorder only feeds the left track. But when you edit the sound you can pan the left track so it comes out centred on the edit for your final export. What editing software are you using and I'll try to...

I doubt that's it Phil. The guy coming through the door is probably mono too. It's where the pan on the track was set in the editing prog you used.

Phil, just to say I think the recut has helped it a lot. One thing though. On Vimeo the cut Lou is panned hard left while all the other sound elements are centred or stereo L/R. You might want to take a look at that because if someone doesn't have there computer speakers set up...
