It does - if for example you are flying to the US, the first place you land will have you collect your bags, go through customs and then recheck them at a specific baggage recheck area, all within the secure area (so you wouldn't have to go through passenger security again). Some countries...

How about making a "lens" out of random stuff - like baked bean cans, pringles tubes, a coffee cup ;) Then go out with it (and a working camera), see and shoot the reactions you get...

I had my 90 stolen a few years ago - same thing, it could actually be opened with a lolly stick. They busted up the ignition barrel and also the sterring column. Other than that, no damage. Insurance company asked me whether I wanted to have it repaired or written off (it was old)... Of course...

Actually it seems that a high number of them are committed using other peoples weapons - which is basically theft, so more than you might think, even though the actual weapon and ammunition was legally obtained. FWIW, I do think that all weapons should be sold differently to the way they are...
