Thanks for the replies. The more I think about it, a fast lens like the Sigma would be very handy, though it does seem pretty chunky and would therefore not be so much of a weight-saving lens. hmmmm

Thanks Joe, Have just ordered a Tamron 17-50 (non VC) from onestop. Can't persuade myself to part with the extra cash for the Sigma and it seems from all reviews etc that the Tamron should the best IQ for that price. I went for IQ over low light performance but at f2.8 I s'pose it should be...
