    North England Red squirrel

Last two times I visited Formby there were sadly no red squirrels to be seen at all. A local woman said the population has been really decimated by squirrel pox and as the NT don't put feeders up anymore, the few red squirrels that survived tend to head to local's gardens, not the woods I'm in...

Info Photographic Equipment Insurance - considerations and providers

Interesting/useful thread. I've never had expensive equipment until I upgraded to Sony this year so have never bothered with photographic insurance. I'm currently going through a protracted claim for a smashed Sony 100-400GM. My home insurance is with Privilege who've assured me I'm covered...

North England Formby National Trust Red Squirrel Reserve

Yep, I saw some in Anglesey at Llyn Parc Mawr in June when I visited. Not had any joy anywhere else on Anglesey though(Dingle etc) I've only just started dabbling in some wildlife photography. I'm definitely not stealthy enough and scare everything off!

North England Formby National Trust Red Squirrel Reserve

I went to Formby this week with my mum. Disappointed to not see any red squirrels. Last visit 18 months ago we saw a couple. A local woman in the car park explained that the numbers have really declined over the last couple of years due to squirrel pox. As the NT aren't feeding the squirrels...

    Beginner Concert Photogrpahy

To echo Box Brownie and woof woof it sounds like you may have the long exposure noise reduction on, which takes a blank frame of an equal length to remove noise. I no longer use Canon so forget which menu it's in-I think one of the green camera menus. Also check you haven't got a very slow...

How safe would you feel out alone with your camera equipment ?

I generally don't think twice about heading into a city alone at night with my camera gear and will go on holiday on my own. Most of my photography is during dusk/blue hour or at night. I have a camera bag where the contents can't be accessed when it's on my back, plus a tripod's a good weapon...

Anyone else fallen out of love with Flickr?

I used to love Flickr. Was a member of a local Flickr meets group when I lived in a different area, which met up once a month. I learnt a lot on our outings out. Up until a year ago I still loved Flickr, but I've had enough now so cancelled my pro subscription. Bad panda every log-on, stats...

    O2 Photopass help/advice required

I used to be a bit of gig photography. Only done one arena show (Manchester Arena), but all the photographers were escorted out into the concourse after the support act, then escorted back in for the headliners. Everyone was then kicked out of the venue after the 3 songs. I actually had a...

Non UK New York locations away from Manhattan.

Not been to NYC for 7 years. Would love to go back now I'm better at photography. I'd recommend hopping on the PATH train to either Jersey City or Hoboken for good views of downtown and midtown View of Twin Towers light beams from Jersey City, Sept 11th by Katie McGuinness, on Flickr

    Sainsburys Instore cheap memory cards

I was just in my local Sainsburys today (Kidderminster branch) and on the discount aisle, in among the discouted tablet sleeves, earphones etc were some Panasonic 4GB and 8GB Olympic Gold SD cards (class 10, 90MB/s) I've picked up a couple of the 8GB ones for £4.99 each and have since found out...

    Taking Tripod in Hand Luggage

I've got a fairly compact Giotto tripod, which with the head removed, fits in my carry on holdall (Just within the size restrictions). I've not had a problem with it on Easyjet, Ryanair or Jet2. Strapped to the outside of a camera bag may be a different matter though.
