    Magmod stuff?

Steve, although the Red Squirrels are not tame, they are very used to humans, its a reserve in the Yorkshire Dales in the UK, I have been going there for about four years now, so I know what food stuffs to use, so they sit and eat rather than run off a bury everything. You can see the catch...

Advice sought on Camera and flash settings for action

Hi Andrew, without teaching you to suck eggs the following may be of help in the future. Yes, setting lights up in the dark can be challenging, Practice outside in the dark so that when you know the distance that your lights will be effective at (Flash subject Distance and write things down in a...

    Magmod stuff?

Steven, the light in that image of the squirrel is from a geled Magsphere to recreate the look of sunlight and a geled magbeam. The idea is to create the look of light, not make the light look like flash. I also use a Apeture Fresnel lens which can create beautiful light. Geling flash for...

    Magmod stuff?

Hi Richard, Hoppy UK, I also have the AK-R1 kit, managed to put a bid on one on Ebay and got it for £25 brand new from China about a year ago. I do like the grids and the Gel holder, but to be fair have not really played with the Barn Doors or Dome or the reflector panel. I think I figured it...

    Magmod stuff?

Jon, hope the practicing with the MagMod stuff you have is going well. Like everything you have to practice with any lighting kit to get the most out of it. There are lots of YouTube videos that promote various brands of off camera flash modifiers and show you great images, but if you are...

    Magmod stuff?

SK66 Steven, Yep very good point, I shoot a lot of equine portraits using flash and although the flash does not bother the horses, some larger modifiers can put them on edge and some horse are not phased at all. As a result, I have been looking for alternatives to softboxes and brollies for...

Advice sought on Camera and flash settings for action

Good point Karl, but shutter speed will affect the ambient probably not as important in this case as the guy is shooting runners at night, so the main exposure will be coming from the flash. I personally think he would be better shooting in manual rather in TTL and override the pre flash as it...

    Magmod stuff?

As this thread is old I was in two minds as to posting on it. Anyway, I thought it was with adding too. Like most things in life, modifying flash can have benefits and limitations depending on numerous factors and what you are trying to achieve lighting wise, but if you think all small modifiers...

Advice sought on Camera and flash settings for action

Andrew, can I ask, the two flashes that you have what are they make & model? Using flash at night you actually have a big advantage and depending on what flashes you have, you could potentialy freeze the action via the flash. I take it you are using the lights you have off camera? Their are...

    Godox AD200 questions

Questions: Presumably one battery per light will be fine for this? Maybe one spare in case something weird happens? Can you get AC leads for the AD200? I've seen them for the 400 - this would be a handy backup. Are the cables that let you separate the head and the battery worth it? I guess I...

Recommend me a flash for Sony

There are now plenty of brands offering flash and radio triggers for Sony, I guess it really depends on what you are willing to spend and your future requirements and uses. In terms of a system Godox is certainly with exploring and their kit is very reasonably priced with some great features.
