    Don McCullin on Radio 4

We listened to this, including my sister, who is on holiday with us at the moment. An interesting insight into the man behind the pictures. Good preparation for when we take my sister to the exhibition, which is still on until the 12th. I would have missed this entirely if wasn't for your post...

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

I like the Z8 size and happy enough with the weight. Carrying it around with the 26/40/24-200, I don't really notice the weight and size-wise I much prefer it to smaller bodies. Much as I tried, I couldn't get on with Olympus (EM1.3), and I'm not liking my Z50II very much. The weight/size is...

    Glass.photo: users thread

Yes there is a LR classic uploader https://glass.photo/highlights/publish-to-glass-from-lightroom-classic This is relatively new. They have had a Capture One uploader for a long time, and it seems to work well. But I have only uploaded a couple of test images. Can you give me a link to your...

    T Factor

Yes, but I don't think he was actually giving advice on aperture choice :)

    T Factor

As has been explained, aperture numbers are just a mathematical calculation based on the ratio between the size of the iris/aperture and the focal length. But various other things can affect the amount of light actually reaching the film. The type of glass used for the lens elements, the number...

    Apple MacBook Neo?

I have an old iPad, that I read ebooks and kindle books on, as well as making notes that sync with my phone, Mac Studio and Macbook. But many programs I regularly use either don't run on the iPad, have cut-down versions on the iPad, or would cost me extra for an iPad version (e.g. C1). If I...

    Apple MacBook Neo?

The big divide for me is that the iPad won't run the programs I want to run, so until we get an iPad that runs MacOS, it's of very limited value to me, even if it's nice to have for the occasions I use it.

    Apple MacBook Neo?

I have no opinion on the matter, but agree it will depend on what you are looking for. Certainly, there is not much point in looking for a touch screen on a Mac.

Colour: what we like vs what is accurate

One of my colleagues created a monitor profile that allowed a colour blind student to successfully complete a degree in GIS.

Colour: what we like vs what is accurate

I did actually mention this type of exception in my post on the Nature paper on how the eyes interact with the brain. But it reinforces how much the brain controls what we see and how we see it.

And of course, adjusting the white point, doesn't mean the other colours in the picture are accurate, and is that white really white.

Colour: what we like vs what is accurate

Not just amateur photographers. With the exception of scientific photography, every professional photographer needs to produce colours that please their clients, not colours that are scientifically accurate. There are of course situations with things like product photographs where colour...

Colour: what we like vs what is accurate

I see it now. However, the important bit when looking at these numbers is: "The underlying physics is that a sensor can distinguish exactly the same colors as the average human eye, if and only if the spectral responses of the sensor can be obtained by a linear combination of the eye cone...

Colour: what we like vs what is accurate

Except they probably don't, it's your brain that is different.
