New to DSLR's would the Sony A200 be a good choice

I am in the same boat - I only have about £200 to spend on DSLR with lens and have been looking at Sony A200s because I've had one in the past, but am wondering if there are any other cameras I am overlooking that I could get in that price range. Going forward I would like to get the most...

    What else to buy?

Can I ask where you are buying it? The best deal I have seen is at SRS Microsystems here. If there's a better deal out there with a second lens then I'm interested!

    Sony A390 or Pentax K-x?

Thanks for the input, much appreciated. I guess the autofocus foible will be something that as a user you'd get used to over time. At least there's some kind of signal as to when it has focused. I'd imagine if I wanted a particular focus area I'd chose to focus using a focus point rather than...

    Sony A390 or Pentax K-x?

've been looking at the Pentax K-x which gets an Essential Rating on Photography Blog which you don't see often. Only negative I can see is that it also doesn't have an autofocus indicator in the viewfinder - how important is this? I've also been looking at the upcoming Sony A390, though...

How useful does a 10x/12x Optical gets on a compact?

When I changed from a 5x zoom to a 10x zoom (Panasonic TZ1) I found the extra zoom a revelation. Most of our photos were printed as standard size prints or for the internet, not sure what the quality is like if printed bigger.

Calling all Sony Alpha users! (Part 3)

Cool, thanks, again!! Looks like I have a new lens on my want list! What's it like for Macro photography?

Calling all Sony Alpha users! (Part 3)

Don't like the sound of losing image quality but then I like not having to swap lenses! As a beginner maybe the loss of quality won't even be noticeable - so many decisions. At least I'm not looking to buy right now so I have plenty of time to decide. Thanks :)

Calling all Sony Alpha users! (Part 3)

Do you not find you have to change lens when you to take any landscape shots though? I'm really looking for a lens that I can take out to cover all bases as I don't want to have to take 2 lenses with me and keep changing them on everyday trips out.

Calling all Sony Alpha users! (Part 3)

Good idea Faldrax - it'll test my skills at phorographibg moving objects trying to get any of my son! OK, I thought I had my first lens decision sorted and was going to choose the Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO Macro Super DG Lens. However, now I'm thinking that maybe I'd like something with a wider...

Calling all Sony Alpha users! (Part 3)

Thanks. I did think that may be the case but wanted to check. I'm desperate to get out and use it properly - I look after my little boy (16 months old) on a Saturday while my wife works, and with the added company of my Mum this weekend I'm probably not going to get near me newly beloved A200...

Calling all Sony Alpha users! (Part 3)

I am now the owner of an A200 and though I haven't had the chance to have a proper play it feels like I made the right choice. One question - should I leave the lens attached or should I take it off after each session?

    Sony A200?

I phoned about 10 online stores last week looking for an A200 and though they said in stock, I couldn't find one in stock anywhere. I ended up getting a great deal on an almost new one in the classifieds part of a forum. It's my first dSLR and I only received it last night. First impressions...

Calling all Sony Alpha users! (Part 3)

Thanks once again, I think I'll have a play with some filters from eBay and then save up for the APO lens.

Calling all Sony Alpha users! (Part 3)

Thanks once again - that lens and the fliters both look like good, cheap options. Before I dive in, is there much difference between the Sigma 70-300mm DL Macro at £68 and this one Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO Macro Super DG Lens - Sony/Minolta Fit at £179? thanks

Calling all Sony Alpha users! (Part 3)

Thanks guys. Slimbert - that lens says no image stabilisation, as a beginner is that something I'll miss having? bobiscuit - those filters, what filter thread should I be looking for? I've seen some which say 58mm but I'm not really sure what that means and what my camera has! Thanks. Steve
