What is your favourite camera of all time?

I only started being interested in photography about 12 years ago, and I think I'd have to choose between two. Firstly, the camera that took the photo I'm most fond off - a bunch of beach huts on Brighton Seafront. I had only just started taking photos 'properly' and I really liked the...

How to treat lenses and cameras that have been in the loft for 20+ years??

assuming you dig them out and they're in ok shape, you could consider a nice mirrorless system as a 'digital back' - they're giving older lenses a new lease of life it seems.

    Micro 4/3rds Owners Thread

hmm. Maybe GF1 with 20mm lens, then wait out the GH2 price drops, as that'd give me the choice of bodies, plus that lovely sounding 14-140

    Micro 4/3rds Owners Thread

Looking at m4/3 or NEX, bouncing back and forth. NEX has a great sensor, and a flip LCD but no EVF and a very limited range of lenses. TBH m4/3 still has a fairly limited range, with no obvious portrait or macro lenses in native m4/3 that I can see. I was tempted by the GF1 and 20mm pancake...

Tripod head (doing MY head in!)

I'm actually really frustrated with my 486. Bought it as something more beefy to replace my 484 which wasn't up to much. thats now sitting on my gorrillapod which is overkill, but nevermind. 486 is widely recommended on the net, so jumped blind at that one, and TBH its not much better than...

Tripod head (doing MY head in!)

I'm quite disappointed in my 486RC ball head for precise positioning. I love the quick release, but it just has a little 'droop' especially with heavy lenses on, and its difficult to fine tune.

    Macro flash

couldn't you put ND type stuff or other filters on one side of the marumi to simulate proportional lighting?

    Lenses for Low Light/Indoor?

17-50 will be better for groups indoors. the IS will help with the fact you'll need slow shutter speeds. But you'll need to pose people as your shutter speeds may be too slow to stop movement.

    50D Announced

same here. I used to go to 800 but no higher. I'd happily use 3200 on the 50D. Needs some more testing but I'm pretty happy so far. And 100% isn't realistic anyway - 6400 might be usable with a little post processing on print sizes - don't usually print higher than 8x10s anyway for normal shots.

and some of a focus target thingy from a magazine I shot too in case it helps show detail Vs noise? Overall picture for reference: 100% crops at ISO 1600 ISO 3200 ISO 6400 ISO 12800

    50D Announced

posted in about three other places, but once more for luck :) (am going to go down to the woods tomorrow to take some 'real' shots). I still have my 40D until I sell it, but didn't do direct comparisons to 40D. I was more interested to see what was usable and what wasn't. These are all...

    50D Announced

got one from LCE in baldwin street. Haggled them down to £949 body only based on the price that Jessops New Oxford Street apparantly did them for. They still have one 17-85 kit available. Now need to swap it over so the wife doesn't notice. Good thing they're practically identical :D

How do proffesional motorsport togs get such great shots? I.E quailty etc.

castle coombe isn't too far away. I did ok at thruxton but if you want the chicane you have to get there early before the early birds start leaving chairs on the hill :nono:

    50D Announced

going to be down in Bristol tomorrow on work, which seems to have more than its fair share of camera shops :) Any idea if one will have stock at reasonable (i.e <£1000 ) prices? Off the top of my head they have bristol cameras, jacobs, jessops, ace and two london camera exchanges. Have I...

Did you feel self-conscious at all when starting out?

had the same problem when I bought my first white L lens (70-200 f4IS). Hardly used it as I felt self concious. then I bought a 100-400 for the Farnborough Air Show. Went up onto our office car park as it overlooks the airfield and many planes fly over us on turns. Quite a few people out...
