Why don't car dealers just tell you the price...

Isn't it because they make money out of finance deals, less for cash sales. I think we're all savvy to the power and the smell of money brings which leads to low margins. A few years age I bought from a Toyota garage and having phoned round, I came up with the lowest price for a 3 door Yaris...

    Lightroom or photoshop?

LR and PS are complimentary so there's a place for both, surely.

    Long Live Film!

Thanks for the offer, but its not practical this weekend. One major advantage of film (as far as i can tell) is its near immunity to dust compared to digital. Ok dust gets on the mirror, but is easily dealt with. Film also makes you stop, think and reconsider before pressing the shutter...

    Long Live Film!

Twas a serious question by the way, and thanks for the replies. Apart from the Pentax I mentioned, i also have a Rollie 35 (twist out lens) which should be a good camera for 'street' photography, given it looks like a toy camera. Set the hyper focal distance / aperature, point and shoot.

    Long Live Film!

Can I ask why you use film when digital is so more convenient? No chemicals, and you can do so much more in digital PP. I have a Pentax mx with wide angle, standard 50mm and a 70-210 zoom, I've not used these for years, 25 at a guess.

    SSD in a laptop

SSDs have a finite number of read/write cycles, but the mean time to failure is of the order 10^-6 hours, so don't worry needlessly.

    Looking for a new laptop

What do you plan to do with it, run LR and or photoshop? It will work that's for sure, but the graphics card is not one of the best as the GPU memory is shared with the CPU. Have you looked on DELL's website? it's worth having a look to see what you can get for your money. They have a refurb...

Got you, yeah, party balloons, add helium and it's high pitched giggles all round.

    Systematic approach to LR5

Yeah 'flying' IMC without experience is getting to me, as you say, I'm going round in circles. It's probably akin to walking in the desert without a compass; walking in circles is inevitable. I've ordered Victoria Bampton's book 'real answers to real questions asked by Lightroom users'. I hope...

    Cheers guys, sounds useful.

    Systematic approach to LR5

Thanks Anthony. I'm not sure how you get LR to make virtual copies, but I'll have a route around. Cheers Steve.

    Systematic approach to LR5

Thanks, I suppose to say there may be a systematic method is inappropriate to what basically is Art. Top to bottom seems reasonable, but I find I'm spending an inordinate amount of time going backwards and forwards, resetting, starting again looking for the perfect picture.
